Seville, Spain. Old Town and Alcazar. Seville is a city in southern Spain with a population of approximately 700,000. Situated on both banks of the Guadalquivir River, it is the capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia. According to legend, Seville was founded by the Greek hero Hercules.

Seville is the fourth most populous city in Spain. It was once part of the Caliphate of Cordoba, and from the 13th century, part of the Kingdom of Castile. Seville's golden age was in the 16th and 17th centuries, when, following the discovery of America, it became not only the main trading port of the Spanish Empire but also a center of art. In 1503, Seville was granted a monopoly on trade with the West Indies, discovered by Columbus. A Spanish proverb of the time stated, "Whoever has not seen Seville has not seen a miracle."

Sevilla es la cuarta ciudad más poblada de España. Formó parte del Califato de Córdoba y, desde el siglo XIII, del Reino de Castilla. Su época dorada se produjo en los siglos XVI y XVII, cuando, tras el descubrimiento de América, se convirtió no solo en el principal puerto comercial del Imperio español, sino también en un centro artístico. En 1503, se le concedió a Sevilla el monopolio del comercio con las Indias Occidentales, descubiertas por Colón. Un proverbio español de la época decía: “Quien no ha visto Sevilla, no ha visto un milagro.”
