The Surfers made a reasonable offer,  in my opinion.  .  .
Would have been cheaper to take that offer......

They should have did the indie thing and just settled it out of court with a high stakes game of bicycle chicken on LSD.

I have to side with the band here. if its a handshake deal with no agreement on time limit then eather party can renegotiate at anytime there's changes in   the the overall agreements values. because of a hite the band had they changed the volume of sales drastically

Painful. Both the band and the label were seminal in my young adulthood. I can’t imagine my life without my Blind Eye Sees All VHS.

I'm with the band. At some point the label needs to understand who made the art. Labels like Victory are a perfect example as to why labels shouldn't be given such control over an artist's IP.

Always get it in writing.

I honestly see both sides of the coin here. I agree with artist here. The Butthole Surfers created the music that was being pressed by the label. Without the music there's no label.

There’s a whole lot of facets to the story, and no-one has clean hands, but if someone told me a handshake meant I was owned for life I’d be pretty reactive too, there’s nothing “Indy” about that at all.

I don’t really have an opinion on it. Part of me thinks a deal is a deal but a handshake deal being binding for the rest of your life seems a little crazy also.

If the Butts and Touch&Go would have updated to 80/20 this wouldn’t be horrible for all parties. Both parties are legit as hell btw

About 1993 - 4 went to see them at Brixton academy, London. We were watching from the bar area at a safe distance, Gibby Haynes stark bollock naked urinating over the mosh pit with a barrage of beer bottles and cans being thrown back... Ahh memories!

That's the problem with handshake deals, they simply aren't well defined enough. On it's face the label was right, that was the deal 50/50, not 50/50 unless you get really famous.

I cant look at Gibby without thinking of his part of Phallus in Wonderland as the Gwar cereal commercial director.

In 2001 I sat backstage with the band in Chicago and Gibby took a phone call. It was Lisa Rusk.
It was the first conversation they had had since the fallout.
I couldn’t help but eavesdrop. And it sounded like they made peace and agreed it was water under the bridge at that point.
Lisa had been divorced from Cory, for at least a couple years. So I don’t know if that relationship (Cory and Gibby) has ever been patched up.
