While working in Edinburgh I went into the National Museum of Scotland on my lunch hour and climbed a narrow stairway leading to a small gallery, and there she was in all her glory-- Sargent's Lady Agnew. I stood alone with her for 15 minutes. She looks really abstract close up but 6 meters away she has the soul of a living woman.
I attended two workshops in Orlando, Fl. in the 70's by Mr. Sanden and they were the start if a long career in painting. His originals are absolutely beautiful. Thank you for your influence in my life, and I'm still painting at 91 years of age.
A big thank you not only to the instructor, but to the photographer and editor; you kept us informed visually throughout. Not many would put this much effort into a film.
Taking on J.S Sargent live on camera is the equivalent of taking on Mike Tysson in his hay days live in Las Vegas, Sir, you are made of steel.... low bow to you!!!!
mr sanden's instructional videos are among the very few best out there in that he narrates what he is doing in a very meticulous manner. The video is not being sped up like most videos are. A job well done.
Breaking down this approach is amazing, I have a greater understanding of how to begin a complicated study. I have never seen something so thoroughly, can I say, simplify? Great. Keep these demonstrations coming! Love it.
One thing I did learn from this amazing demonstration of painting skill, was not to overwork. Judge the colour and tone and then apply each stroke and leave it be. That gives the the painting a crisp freshness that cannot be achieved by over working brush strokes.
