TheDesignAir was given the chance to fly on ‪@TurkishAirlines‬ Inaugural flight from Istanbul (IST) to Sydney (SYD) on the airline's largest aircraft, the 777-300ER. Now operated by the A350-900 this very first flight showcased what 20+ hours is like flying on one of the world's leading airlines.

How does it compare to other European carriers on the route? While the business class seat and cabin has now been replaced by the A350, the food, service and amenities are just the same.

Although I flew as a guest of Turkish, the views of this review are my own.

The only thing I don't like is, when sitting by the window and there is another passenger beside you, it will be hard to get out and go to toilet. I just travelled with Qantas business and it was the best. Their configuration was 1x2x1. Very private.

Once non-stop to Sydney and Melbourne starts, Turkish will be very competitive against the gulf three because they fly to every big and mid-sized city in Europe.

I don't understand why Turkish stays with the 2-3-2 configuration. Impossible to go to the lavatory without bothering the person next to you.

What a great review. The big advantage with Turkish for 🇦🇺travellers is the huge range of smaller European cities out of IST. For example Bari in Puglia is 2 stops in a direct line from Sydney and in 12 months only 1 stop avoiding back tracking from Rome or London. Thanks.

That kind of response—“Turkish Airlines gets mixed reviews about the lounge and accessibility isn’t practical, but hey, it’s a big lounge”—is lazy and misses the point. These aren’t new complaints; people have been raising the same issues for over seven years, and the airline has done absolutely nothing to fix them. Instead of downplaying serious flaws, try producing a video that actually shows whether Turkish Airlines is doing anything at all to improve how it manages the overwhelming volume of passengers in that overcrowded lounge

After 8 years of not flying, my daughter and I are finally flying business class. I'm wondering if a 1 hour and 35 minute layover in Istanbul (IST) is enough time to visit the business lounge, or if we should just head straight to the gate. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I’m on this airplane out of JFK to IST with a business restricted ticket . I assume I will end up in the middle business class seat. How do you get out of your seat to use the restroom if people on either side of you are sleeping fully reclined ?
