I have yet to start this universe of Hobb’s, but my wife has devoured all of them. We watched this video together and she was just pointing at the screen going, YUP, YUP, YUP. He is exactly right! 😂 IN TURN, you have both compelled me to get into this world soon!

Tawny Man trilogy is objectively my favourite trilogy but The Fitz and The Fool is the culmination of 16 books of sublime character development and the pay off hits you right in the feels.

Just started the liveship series....ready for some pirate magic 😊

I finally started my Realm of the Elderlings Journey and now I get why the books are so highly regarded

I've just started the second book of the Dragon Keepers. Don't let lower reviews of this one discourage you from reading it! I think the only reason it's rated lower than the rest of these series is because it comes right after the Tawny Man which, indeed, is the peak of Hobb. But it is still the same Hobb we know and love. She quickly became my favorite writer and I am mad with myself that I did not discover her sooner.

Found this video having just finished Ship of Destiny - so insightful, thanks. Personally I absolutely LOVED Liveship Trilogy, find Assassin's Quest a bit too sad - poor bloody Fitz! Hobb is the only author that I have read that tackles terrible abuse (e.g. r***) with such respect and diligence - she absolutely gets emotional consequence - incredible writing

I mentioned it on bindery, make sure you read the novella , The Willful Princess & The Piebald Prince!!! Best before Tawny Man but you can read it now. I think it is 80 pages.

I’ve read them all. Can’t choose a favourite, as it’s all one story. I love the whole thing.

Just finished Fools Fate as well. It was incredible.

I am VERY picky and critical about fantasy fiction, and I think Robin Hobb is a terrific writer. I just finished Royal Assassin.

My fav among the first three trilogies is Tawny Man for sure. Its strength, however, is admittedly built on the setup in the first two—so standing on the shoulders of giants as they say. I actually enjoyed Liveship more than the first Farseer trilogy, mostly because I thought it stuck the landing better, but I feel dirty criticizing any of the books. As a whole, Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings is an all-time great for me, right up there with Jordan’s Wheel of Time, Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, Abercrombie’s First Law, and Ruocchio’s Sun Eater.

I am currently reading Royal Assassin, and I am enjoying it so much.

been stuck on mad ship for a uhh possibly a year or two after being exhausted by my personal position that yes exactly ship of magic was tough. i also felt the characters were mostly insufferable, all around, in a way where i just did not enjoy vs how you explained, fitz may be a dummy but i still enjoyed it. Maybe bc it was a closer case study following his journey vs an epic where the scope is drawn back and split b/n multiple homies.

anyways, i really like how you described her writing style. got me really hype along with your praise for mad ship, hoooweee. Gonna reread that hype end of Ship of Magic and here I go again.

Thank you sir! got yourself a new subscriblio

Just finished the last one of the 16 books. A beautiful (and painful) voyage.

I have to say that I loved "Ship of Magic". I also love aspects related to the politics, religion and even the philosophy of that slice of the world, which is introduced there.

I really like your take on things!! and makes me excited to keep going. I did start with Liveship Traders, as I typically enjoy Multiple POVs for Epic Fantasy. I am currently on Ship of Destiny, and just so excited to see what happens with the giant build up from the first 2. I also agree on the hatred of that one character, to finish Mad Ship and be rooting for them now.
I already bought Assassin's Apprentice as Robin Hobb's style is so beautifully rewarding. for sure is a Marathon and not a sprint, you just keep going. Her hooks are built on the character's journey and it is more about the secrets that she hints at that FINALLY get revealed that blow you away, not really the action as in most stories.
I have only heard how good Tawny Man Trilogy is, but will be some time till I get there LOL

I read Assassins Apprentice but didnt vibe. Read Liveship Traders and now im hooked

Alright alright I’ll finally dive into this world!

I took the better part of this year reading Assassin's Apprentice and I absolutely loved it. I immediately started Royal Assassin. I really do love the way Robin Hobb writes and I feel like she gets me. I just wish I had the time to completely emerge myself in this universe and read this all in one go

Published order is the best with the Piebald Prince novella in the first third of the Fool's Errand! Just started book 16 today and man that last trilogy is amazing. Ties all of the Rain Wild and the Six Dutchies together.

I've been meaning to try our Robin Hobb for some time. Next year I really should start, so this has been very helpful.
