that line ran into southtown Gt Yarmouth

An enjoyable video Henry. I was up in Lowestoft in August this year and cycled from my hotel to Gorleston-on-Sea. I also got a couple of photos of the remains of Corton station which was a couple of stops south of the 3 Gorleston stations.

The only two lines opened by the Norfolk and Suffolk Joint Railway, which was a collaboration between the M&GN and Great Eastern, was Yarmouth to Lowestoft and the branch from North Walsham to Cromer via Mundesley. Two lines that I'm sure would be popular today both offering coastal views. However, the section from Cromer to Mundesley was closed as early as 1953, having only been completed in 1906. That line never really made a profit, but I assume the Yarmouth to Lowestoft line must have fared better surviving until 1970. Norfolk lost a lot of railways which seems a shame. Another that I would imagine would be popular now was the Kings Lynn to Hunstanton line. Anyway, great video! I will subscribe and check out your other content.

Great to see you in the Fine City Henry! I hope you’ve enjoyed the best county in the UK! 😊

Do come again and show more of Norfolk.
Really like  both Norfolk and your walk

They closed the line to Yarmouth from Lowestoft in May 1970. Gorleston had 3 stations. One of the biggest travesties in BR and Labour transport policy. Would have been packed especially in summertime now.

It is a shame there's no tram running there. I'm not sure it warrants a train, but a tram would be useful, especially along the coast like Blackpool

Good stuff 👍

If you do this again, the x1 and x11 buses go straight from norwich, take about the same time to get to gt yarmouth and work out cheaper!

There were several lines in Norfolk that were abandoned that would probably be thriving now, but I'm afraid too much time has passed for any hope of rebuilding. There are many reasons why it will not happen:-
Firstly the cost- Doing anything in Britain costs far more than in other countries, due to poor project management (Think of Crossrail, HS2 and Great Western electrification).
Secondly- Adding a branch line onto an existing service can have a knock-on effect in case of service disruption.
Thirdly- It is not in London.
Fourthly- Norfolk has mainly returned Tory MPs to Parliament, so Labour governments don't like that and Tory governments feel they don't have to bother.
Finally- There are "endangered" bats and great-crested newts in the way (or at least they will suddenly appear if anybody starts building).

However, as you suggested, a coastal tramway might be the answer, as in Belgium, but possibly using the ultra light technology being tested in Coventry. It would have to be more economical than the buses that currently run and that is doubtful.

Never heard of the place

Gorleston oj sea is the best
