Aaron, Tara, & Johnald head back to school for a second helping of Sister Mary Clarence's spirited teaching as they give their Sister Act 2 reaction, recap, commentary, analysis, breakdown, & full spoiler review!

Aaron Alexander, Tara Erickson & John Humphrey react to Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993), the joyful musical comedy sequel directed by Bill Duke that brings Whoopi Goldberg’s beloved character back for another unforgettable adventure. Picking up after the events of Sister Act, Deloris Van Cartier is once again called upon by the sisters of St. Katherine’s — but this time the mission takes her into the classroom.
Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost, The Color Purple) returns as Deloris, who goes undercover as Sister Mary Clarence to help a struggling Catholic school whose music program is on the verge of being shut down. Tasked with teaching a class of rebellious students, Deloris discovers a hidden group of talented young singers and turns them into a choir capable of competing in a statewide music competition. Among the standout students is Rita Watson, played by Lauryn Hill (The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, The Fugees), whose powerhouse voice leads to some of the film’s most memorable musical moments — including the electrifying finale performance of “Joyful, Joyful.” The cast also includes Kathy Najimy (Hocus Pocus, King of the Hill) as the lovable Sister Mary Patrick and Maggie Smith (Harry Potter, Downton Abbey) returning as Mother Superior, once again reluctantly relying on Deloris’ unconventional methods.
From the classroom chaos to the iconic choir rehearsals and show-stopping musical numbers, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit blends heart, humor, and gospel-inspired performances into one of the most beloved feel-good comedies of the 90s. With its uplifting message about confidence, community, and finding your voice, the sequel remains a nostalgic favorite for fans of musical comedies.

Bring back credits where the cast is just having a blast together

Rita's mother is Sheryl Lee Ralph, original Deena in Dreamgirls and Emmy winner for Abbott Elementary. Audra McDonald would have only been 23 years old when this film came out, a year before her Broadway breakout/first Tony winning role as Carrie in Carousel.

Lauryn Hill before she became THE Lauryn Hill! 🥹🤍

That high note was absolutely real, and UNPLANNED. That's why Whoopi had that reaction - it was genuine.

The fact that people don’t know that the girl who plays Maria ( Alana ubach, who is also the drunk Mom on euphoria) is also the voice of mama Imelda in Coco, and also her singing voice, is insane. She’s been in everything.

her name needs to be bigger.

Jennifer Love Hewitt being in this movie is one of the most random facts of all time

The way I would perform along with the final performance in my bedroom when I was a kid! 😂 What a film, never gets old!

Everytime I watch ‘Sister Act’ I remember how much I love it, but watching ‘Sister Act 2’ it just amazes me how it is EVEN better.

This movie has lived rent-free in my head for the past 30+ years. The final performance is a core memory.

The funny thing is that prior to this film, Lauryn Hill's biggest accomplishment was getting booed off of Showtime At The Apollo at age 13. She kept at it and landed a role on the soap opera As The World Turns. After Sister Act: 2, her and The Fugees got signed to a record label and the rest is herstory.

41:50 I'm leaving this here because I'm POSITIVE we were all just waiting for this reaction!!!!

The fact that y'all don't know who THE Tanya Blount is!!!! She released her first album in 1994 after this movie I think, and she's a part of a country soul pair call War and Treaty.

@Roman-n5s8i 6 months ago

This movie had so many bops! They high note was unexpected that’s why everyone had that reaction

The girl singing with Lauryn Hill is the female half of War and Treaty. You guys should check out the reunion of most of this cast Whoopi had on The View for the 30th anniversary of the film. They sang the songs and I tear up every damn time. There’s just something about this soundtrack ❤

Fun Fact: Ahmal the shy singer is played by Ryan Toby from the group City High—known for "What Would You Do?" and "Caramel"—but he has also written some of the biggest hits, such as Usher's "Caught Up" and "Superstar." He also helped write "Miami" for Will Smith and "Control Myself" for LL Cool J and Jennifer Lopez.

@reflectgamesandsocial 6 months ago

Love yall but that IS NOT AUDRA (who is amazing). That is the one and only Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Fun fact, the scene at the piano where Rita and the other gal was singing before the nun sees them was specifically written so that girl could have a solo because she was originally picked to play Rita, but when Lauryn Hill showed interest in the part and got the part the other gal, kind of just got put into a background character, but because she had such a great voice, they decided to write a scene for her to basically have a solo
