I love when people start Starkid shows with Hatchetfield and then feel stress about the ending thinking Hatchetfield "sad endings" is the Starkid norm when TGWDLM having a sad ending was so out of the norm for them that Nick was actually approached about it lol
This was a great reaction and I love your literary analysis on these shows!

Now you know why the audience cheered so much for Tom's (Dylan Saunders) introduction in Black Friday! He was so beloved as Jafar especially since Twisted is in my opinion (and many others,) Starkid's best show :)

Every time you caught some bit of foreshadowing and perfectly guessed what was going to happen i kept thinking "wow starkid really does put a lot of foreshadowing in their shows" but then of course they would, one of the best jokes in their very first musical is just a character DEFINING foreshadowing to the audience

Jafar couldn't be the one who saves the kingdom because while well intentioned his devotion to reason and principle in a world where magic and logic goes against him makes him weak; using that wondrous power in very simple and basic ways like Aladdin. Jasmine's wishes on the other hand are not based in reality or realistic which makes them a better conduit for the silly rules of the world itself.

1:14:45 to add to that: it’s also that the song isn’t about how in love they are with each other, but rather how that short interaction sparked chemistry and challenged both their world views so that they want to GET TO know each other

Twisted is able to articulate meaning on so many levels effortlessly without feeling overstuffed. I think one of the reasons it pulls it off so well is by assigning each level to a different character and advance them all by making them interact with each other. I am just in awe of this musical:

1: The satire of the corporate side of Disney that was happening at the time (embodied by Prince Achmed)

2: The satire of Disney stories and tropes in general, especially love stories (embodied by Aladdin/The Princess)

3: The direct parody of Wicked and Aladdin (embodied by Jafar)

4: The relationship between Disney stories and their source material (embodied, of course, by Scherezade). Not only is Aladdin flipped in Twisted from the Disney story, but he's actually closer to his depiction in the original story.

And it pulls it all off while telling its own compelling story.

Then, there's the lyrics which you praised throughout. The were written by Kaley McMahon. This is the only Starkid musical she worked on and they are absolutely masterful.

One last detail, the scene between 1:56:25 and 2:20:21 is one of the tightest comedic scenes I've ever seen. The jokes just build on each other perfectly.

2:23:09 Twisted: saying "Who lives, who dies, who tells your story" 3 years before Hamilton hit Broadway

You taking silly star kid bits very seriously is becoming one of my favorite things on the internet 😂❤

this is the most i've ever seen him laugh more than he cried while reacting to something LOL

The Princess' song is my favourite"I want" song in anything ever. It reveals so much about her character that she wants these completely unrealistic, conflicting things (wanting to have her moon and eat it too), which she reveals later in the song is how she wants freedom while also wanting to be protected from making decisions. She is so sincere about this wish to have it both ways that you can't help but like her. At the same time, there is a moment in the song that strikes through to the emotional truth of her want - "what I wouldn't give to live in a new situation". She's not happy; she wants things to be different.
Her stated wants - going on an adventure, but not one too dangerous, and being free of her life as a princess while remaining in relative comfort - are not that unreasonable if you think about it. She's just too young and sheltered to know what a different life might look like.

This is the magnum opus of Starkid. Doesnt get better than this. Personally this is my 3rd favourite music of all time

The Princess and Jafar in this are basically London Tipton and Mr. Moseby from the Suite Life shows.

The golden rule, or tit for tat is common in nonhuman animals too!  Vampire bats will share food with their sisters as long as they haven't stiffed them before.  Red winged blackbirds protect each other's territories until one refuses to show up.  Capuchins recognize when they are being rewarded unfairly and refuse to accept unfair payment.

There are so many examples.  The golden rule, and even forgiveness for rare adverse outcomes works because it reduces social friction and increases the benefits of association.

Twisted was so good that investors became interested in taking it to Broadway. But as you can guess, Disney refused permission to let them do it. Starkid was careful with character names (Ja'far is based on an historical person, Disney could not license Aladdin, but used the Djinn instead of Genie and Princess instead of Jasmine to avoid copyright issues). But since there were so many references to the Disney movies they could have sued. Jerks.

1:50:40 the fact that you remember achmed is HILARIOUS to me

I tell this to every reactor who reacts to Starkid, but MAMD is one of their older and frankly more underrated musicals due to it's nature. However, in my opinion, it is one of the strongest stories for Starkid underneath all the crude jokes and I think it would be worth reacting to!

I only have one actual critique of Twisted, i wish they established Jaffar and Jasmin's relationship a little bit earlier in the story, like maybe a passing comment from Jaffar showing that he thinks good/highly of her before there first conversation, it doesn't need it but i feel it would of made the transition to that plot point a bit smoother

Cosigning your idea to react to Wish! After so many good musicals I think we deserve an autopsy.

2:30:45  the crowd goes wild at the batman reference bc the year before they did their show Holy Musical B@man which has some great stuff

2:16:25 this is his “no good deed”
