It was Y2K and Honda’s 4 cylinders had been losing to Ducati who was enjoying a displacement advantage with its 996cc L-twins in 750cc World Superbike. So Honda designed a purpose-built WSBK Ducati killer, and in 2000, Honda and Colin Edwards did just that; beating Bayliss and Bostrom on the Ducati 996. Fantastico!

Missed the Intro and Outro from CA for a while. Nice review and the bass was so intense with the bike running I had to turn the headphones down.

I’ve had numerous R1s, ZX10Rs over the years but I miss the one RC51 I owned the most. Don’t really want to ride anymore but I’d still love one at home so I can admire it in the corner of the lounge.

I bought one 2 years ago with 11k miles. Tuned by Dan Kyle. One of Honda’s best motorcycles. It was literally built to beat Ducati. It didn’t just beat Ducati...It went undefeated in 2002 World Superbike.

That's the best sounding Japanese bike ever made. In the 20 years since the RC51 appeared there really hasn't been all that much progress. Just fancier electronics.

I bought mine new in 2002. Other bikes have come and gone, but I still have my RC51 SP2!

Joey Dunlop won his last couple races at the Isle of Man in 2000 on a RC51. To honor him there are 2 statues on the island of Joey sitting on a SP1. Valentino Rossi won his first and last Suzuka 8 hour along side Collin Edwards on a SP1. I thought that was pretty cool. Such an amazing success story that bike is! Thanks for the video

Beautiful bike. I actually prefer the sports bikes with heavy on fairings. Just seem to look better imo

Top 3 bikes for me. A buddy back in Maryland had that exact bike. Hearing him pull into the coffee shop and taking off down the street was awesome. I would buy one in a second if my back wasn't so bad. Gorgeous bike .
