Besides Sun Wukong from Journey to the West, Nezha, or Luocha, is arguably one of the most famous Chinese deities of our time. His image as a mischievous, rebellious child god has easily endeared him to audiences, leading to numerous films based on his story.
In this episode, Joebongo, along with Dragon, the creative director from Salmon House, and Gammy, the sound producer for Salmon Podcast, explore the history of Nezha from the novel Fengshen Yanyi (Investiture of the Gods), which recounts his birth, the mischievousness that led to many problems and disagreements with his father, Li Jing, and his eventual rise to become a general in the Zhou army before being elevated to the status of a deity.
