You said it throws you off  seeing Prince play background, That was the amazing thing about Prince, he was always generous and shared the spotlight, lots of artists wouldnt do that but he loved to highlight others. He helped Tamar make her cd then they did a  tour that was not a Prince tour or a Prince and Tamar tour. It was a tamar tour, he played in the band, stayed in the background and she did her whole show. It was not until the very end that Prince stepped to the front and did 2 songs with Tamar, he knew fans would be upset if they came and saw the show and he didn't do anything, but he loved just being  in the background and letting her shine. When the NPG did thekr own cd and touredPrince covered his face and was the character tora tora, again he just wanted to be part of the band. It was a new power generation tour not a Prince & the New Power Generation tour. People thought he was being a jerk because they went on talk shows to promote the show and he wore his mask and didn't speak, play the game he didn't want it to be about him, he was only a band member. I can't think of any other artist that would do that

THIZ IZ EPIC, 3 GREAT 1'S ON THA SAME STAG, IT DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT !!!!

Prince and one of his fav protégés Lenny K, throw in Larry Graham on bass…heaven🔥

THEY JAMMIN.....❤❤❤❤❤

He can play background and still make it sound good 💜💜💜😊

Epic. Can we give it up for the horns? OMG!

Prince was a musician first and foremost! He did a lot of playing behind other artists. He would pop up at their show and ask if he could jam with them. Sharon Jones and the Dap kings, Q tip, and Mary J Blige are just a few I can think of.

I was at a Lenny Kravitz show in MSP around this time, and Prince came out to play American Woman and Fly Away...... It was pretty f&*ing magical.

This is at Paisley Park... Prince's 1999 party!

This was  New Year’s Eve 1999 at Paisley Park! They had a good time. The entire concert is EPIC!!!

🌸 Prince lookin very sexy in that fit! 💜

Just noticed how much Larry Graham looks like his brother, Drakes Dad. 😂

There is a London performance in 1998 with Prince and Chaka Khan where he's singing background for her. I always love to see him having just jamming and having fun

This is a great Saturday night for prince.he loved getting greats together and jamming

Did you catch The Pointer Sisters Yes We Can Can with the horns at the end of American Woman?  Might only be us OGs that heard that.🤣

I feel so left out 😂😂😂😂😂
