Rodgers, Kinney, Tagge, Jacobson lead Nebraska to the national title, and all come back next year and lead the Huskers to another title. That's the way it was then. It was really college sports. Almost always no thought of leaving early, despite the ability to become a pro star right away.
This game had historic connotations, though you would not know from this video as the commercials were cut out. According to Wikipedia, this was the last ever sporting event to feature cigarette commercials. It was in 1971 that all those cigarette ads went bye-bye. This was the last sports game to show the Marlboro Cowboy, that Virginia Slims jingle, and those people with black eyes on Tareyton ads.
#77 at the 6:02 mark.... Oops! Art Cantrell (missed virtually the entire game) and Tom Casanova, two of my favorite Tigers of all time! Interesting that both teams played the backup QB in the 1st half. Buddy Lee was a little wobbly leaving the field 1:57:12. Nebraska two fumbles at the end... Yikes. Great game and thanks for posting.
