After working in a nonprofit for 17 years, I ensure you that they will Tax Write out every penny they donated and with his connections with this corrupt government is going to be HUGE one…. Probably doble of what they gave!

I absolutely hate what The Met Gala has become. The spectacle now feels forced and out-of-touch.

I guess the fact that there's been so much controversy around this gala vs previous does seem a bit strange considering as you've both mentioned, billionaires have always been involved. LVMH and Kering are both owned by billionaires (Arnault and Pinault; LVMH, like Amazon, also has faced allegations of using sweatshops in recent past). Culturally Bezos feels like the face of wealth inequality due to his lifestyle and because Lauren Sanchez embodies an extremely nouveau riche aesthetic and they seek media attention as a couple, as opposed to the more discreet lifestyles of Pinault and Arnault. Either way happy to see you engage fully with the protests Amy! I would love to see you interview someone who was involved with the gala protests and ask them about why they decided to put on their events.

Thanks for the podcast. I live in Ireland so I am asleep, same with the Oscar’s. I could never bring my self to stay up to watch either online. Podcast’s like this are far more interesting anyway

I really enjoyed hearing both of your takes on the whole spectacle and agreed with everything you've said, which is unusual for me in general.
Just before watching this I'd been looking at the NYT photos of the event and the two things that really stuck out the most were that I had no earthly idea who 98% of the people in the photo line were and secondly, I was blown away by how absolutely TINY so many of them looked! The Bezos woman can't be over 4'7 and many of the men looked to be about the same height. I tried to blame it on the camera angles, but couldn't. I showed a video of 'all of this' to some friends here in Milano and none of them have heard of most of the people who were pictured either, so maybe they're well-known only in the United States (??). I'm American, but have been gone for a long time.

Lauren Sanchez Bezos tries entirely too hard. I'd feel sorry for her, were it not for her husband's money. She seems deeply insecure, tacky, vulgar, and convinced that she can buy her way into fashion/culture icon status ~ but even Law Roach isn't able to push her over that line. And anyway, WTF, Law Roach? You're too good for her.

Doing charity and donating does not required visibility. Many people do donations and remain anonymous, they do not go out shouting how much they have donated.
In case of billionaires just pay, your taxes and have the government then support the arts, health, education etc with that money. This billionaires “donations” are really tax exemptions they obtain so at the end they are paying less taxes which then does not allow for government money support and contribute to the museums.

I don't think anyone was paying attention to the protest. I actually thin it's harder and harder to get people to pay attention to protests because it's harder and harder to get people to pay attention to anything.

When celebrities walk the red carpets at awards shows and make political statements or wear ribbons, the public shout and rant that we don't want to hear about their causes at the Grammys, The Globes etc.
But if a celebrity attends the Met Gala, they are called out and need cancelling.
People who are only now hopping on the bandwagon should research who past sponsors are to these events.
The Arts are for making statements, rebellion, and protesting, and I think it's welcomed.
The Met Gala has been abysmal since after 1997/98 and went severely down in class the day Anna invited the Kardashians.
This year, we have an American creative director bringing shame on the Schiaparelli House by dressing Lauren Sanchez as Madame X.

In this case, I think the Met Gala has strayed from its original purpose and succumbed to the power of money like never before, political influence, and social pressures. Powerful groups, like the tech oligarchies, are fighting to prevail and gain a foothold and acceptance. It's like the era of the nouveau riche versus the old guard. Sometimes social "acceptance" is something that can't be bought. It’s not easy to polish your image just by spending money. In the case of Besos, Amazon Fashion promotes the sale of unsustainable, mass-produced fashion, manufactured who knows where, etc., with poorly paid employees in its warehouses.

Yeah, the world doesn't care, or talk about Jeff Bezos hosting or funding the Met Gala. A few Randos were boycotting, that happens with EVERY dam thing. Nobody cares.
People should care that Heidi Klum CONTINUES to act as if she was EVER a fashion model outside of a Victoria's Secret show. That costume she was plastered into was the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen.
