A farting pug in a four-horse carriage, a stolen bowl of pasta, and why you won't find a Colonel Brandon on a dating app. Daisy Edgar-Jones, Fiona Shaw and director Georgia Oakley talk Sense and Sensibility with Time Out's Global Film Editor Phil de Semlyen. In UK cinemas now.

Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, Twisters) plays Elinor Dashwood, a role she's wanted since studying Austen as a teenager. Fiona Shaw is the scene-stealing matchmaker Mrs Jennings, complete with a laugh partly inspired by her own pug. Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean) explains how Esmé Creed-Miles won the role of Marianne by eating Daisy's lunch at the chemistry read.

We also get into filming on Dartmoor with wild ponies and wilder weather, the Devon cottage last seen in Spielberg's War Horse, a stately home never before shown on film, and what Jane Austen can teach anyone dating in 2026.

Sense and Sensibility, from Focus Features and Working Title, also stars Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane and Herbert Nordrum.
