Saving the best part of Death Valley National Park for last... The salt flats & Badwater basin! These iconic locations were must see places that I had wanted to see for years. I hiked in to the salt flats along Salt Creek way ahead of sunset so that I could take advantage of careful selection for my evening compositions.

Unfortunately, the next morning I overslept a bit more than I would have liked, and ultimately arrived at Badwater Basin just at sunrise rather than a bit beforehand. Rookie mistake! Anyway, I still greatly enjoyed seeing this part of the park and thankfully had some really great early morning light for a lot longer than usual due to some high clouds lingering off to the east. I kept my wide angle lens attached to the 5DSR from the night before and set out to find some interesting scenes in the desolate salt flats of Badwater Basin.

Despite a short time spent in Death Valley, I was able to see almost all of the parts of the park that I had planned to see. There were still a few others that I wasn't able to fit into a shortened weekend trip (the Racetrack, for example), but that only means one thing... I just will have to go back!

I loved all the shots from the first segment , I also agree with what you said about the sun being blown out. It looked right and that’s the way it was. Also the tree of life shot with the patch of light in the distance might have been my favorite of the trip. Good work sir

Minimalism for the win! This location is exceptional for that. I've said it before, but the texture is spectacular for the comps! Add the reflected light, clouds, and colour; Bob's your uncle! Loved all the shots in this one, especially the 2nd to the last! Great trip! Cheers, Brian!!!

I've been to Death Valley long time ago for a few hours with my parents. I did not get to walk across the salt flats. It looks amazing. The crunching sound is reminiscent of walking on frosted sidewalks.

Another otherworldly if not lunar landscape Brian - that second shot with the light on the flatts was beautiful. And then those skies lit up didn't they ! Amazing colours at sunset. Awesome irregular honeycomb shapes and patterns with gorgeous soft light at sunrise and a great end to the trip !!

Another great video Brian. Lovely images We have photographed Death Valley many times. There are so many compositions it takes a fair degree of discipline to stay with a composition.
