I bought this 1994 Yamaha TDM 850 for just £1,200 and soon, it has to carry me all the way from Suffolk to John O'Groats.

Before that can happen, it needs some work.

In this video I'm getting the TDM ready for the trip: servicing it, attempting to save a very badly damaged exhaust, fixing a few problems and finally giving this slightly forgotten 90s adventure bike a new look with some custom vinyl.

The next time you see this bike, Danny, Freddie, Joe and myself will be heading off pointing north. Whether we'll all make it there is another question...

Matt you forgot one thing...........A tow hitch for Mr Dobbs to put his rope on to get him home .

Great job Matt and let's face it, you are the only one of the four to stick with the original premise of buying a bike for purpose. This is how I certainly would have interpreted the challenge. Good luck with it and for standing tall on on the moral high ground here 😎

They were so ahead of their time when introduced onto the market and look what several manufacturers are producing these days.

As a 63 year old who owned numerous classic bikes from the 60’s-90’s, you’ve made the best choice for this challenge! The sport touring bikes weren’t as sexy as the standards but made those long rides more pleasurable!
Good new color (colour) scheme, it looks like a Japanese M series 🇩🇪 😂

The TDM is certainly underrepresented in motovlogging, so here's a new subscriber who owns a 3VD and a 4TX :)

Other than yamahas color theme and elevated weight position, It's never been a bad choice this one.

Love your videography style Matt. Completely different to the other lads, it's going to be a great time, watching all content from you guys.

Lovely bike and nice to see someone actually use a torque wrench.

Great job and I actually think you’ve got yourself a pretty smart bike for the job! 👍

Looking forward to this £1500 challenge. The one thing I find amusing after watching Mr Dobb's for a few years, is this whole new mega competitive side were seeing of him now 😂

I have the tdm model after this and its the first bike i had for more tahn 2 seasons. Only complain i have is the wind buffering, but that shout be solved with a different windscreen. I love is because its versatal. I can gog on the highway to the mountains an when im there iits great on the twisties and also capable when the road stops and gravel or dirt becins. Ik have changes the handbars for some wider bars and raised them. Have fun and don't be scared to ride it aggressif, because its realy cappable.

I'm rooting for you Matt. Show them who's boss and have a ton of fun doing it!

That tdm is an excellent bike. I’ve been looking for one of those in the states for years. Very rare here. Great choice.

Matt, what you are doing with the TDM is showing us (hopefully!) that one can buy a decent sized machine, for a budget most of us can reach, and do road trips. A bike where, without being a pro-spanner-man, it can be serviced and ready to rock. Rgds from Skye.
