We tried eating for $10 a day living in Guatemala — can you really do it? We tested Guatemala food and the cost of living Guatemala with a full day of cheap eats: a local comedor breakfast, a market picnic lunch & homemade chow mein for dinner.

Full transparency — we wanted to see what $10 actually feeds us living in Guatemala right now in San Pedro La Laguna, Lake Atitlan. Not tourist restaurants, just how we really eat day-to-day: where locals eat, what we can haul from the local market, and what it costs to cook a traditional Guatemalan chow mein at home. Spoiler: we spent 115 quetzales total — just $7.50 per person — and the chow mein alone was 35Q (~$5) with leftovers. Is it doable? For sure.

Let us know in the comments — have you ever tried a $10 food day where you live? We read every comment.

👋 ABOUT US — Chris & Grace (with Mango 🥭):
We're Chris and Grace, a married couple from small town Ohio building a slower, more intentional life abroad with our golden retriever, Mango. Guatemala is where we currently live — it's the backdrop, not the whole story. This channel is about our real daily life, routines, relationship, and what it's actually like choosing this path as two technically unemployed creatives. We mostly shop at Pacas, we cover tattoos when it's culturally sensitive, and we try to integrate into local community — not price it out. Right now we're based in San Pedro La Laguna, Lake Atitlán, with regular trips to Mexico and beyond.
