John Dee, the queen's advisor and "great enchanter" of the Tudor era, whose life embodied the greatest ambitions and darkest fears of his time. He was a man who could cast complex horoscopes for a monarch's coronation, develop cutting-edge navigational charts to discover new worlds, and simultaneously spend hours in his chapel, attempting to unravel the mysteries of the universe through communication with celestial beings.
This duality created an image that simultaneously fascinated and terrified his contemporaries. How could a man who stood at the origins of modern science delve so deeply into the world of magic and mysticism? The answer lies in his biography.
