Nick, please don’t get rid of the Dracaena ‘janet craig’ plant!!! It has always been with us and I have always appreciated it. ❤

That wink near the end. You are a hoot , Nick.

Love that you are back regularly on you tube!

I have a deep, abiding hatred for the asparagus fern. It is invasive here in Southern California and the previous owners planted it in our yard. It has thorns, grows everywhere and has underground tubers that don’t die. You have to pull every one out by hand.

Here’s my comment lol, as always, love your videos!

Hi Nick, until recently I overwintered Coleus cuttings for my community gardens. The trick is to pinch often, propagate and be ready to start them again. If Poinsettias is your thing at Christmas, they do the job better, you can keep them and they do not waste resources like a plant that you will throw away do and you will not have to try to make them flower again which is an art in itself. Interesting content as always! 🙂

Hmm - I have several of these - I love my beefsteak begonias! Their dark shiny leaves are beautiful! Not fussy at all. I also have a pass-along coleus from a dear friend - started a s a small cutting now it is huge! I also have a large purple tradescantia which is quite interesting. Love this, Nick!🪴

Begonias have such great variety. They can look like Hoya or philodendron and even a bonsai tree. They have a multitude of color, patterns and sheens too. Once you have the right substrate (somewhat water tentative but also light and airy) and the watering down, many will do just fine in ambient, even in colder months as long as you don’t leave them near a drafty area. I have seen a few YouTube plant influencers get into begonias a bit now but it’s mostly aroids, your’e right. I find begonias to be much easier care than many alocasia which are spider magnets and require a particular type of space to be properly displayed—usually a large space with views to look down. You can also much more easily trim them or prop them to keep them smaller while still attractive if you like. They are much, much more versatile than many alocasia and other aroids aroids. Personally, I like a few big statement aroids with begonia to fill much of the in between. Why are they not more popular? Maybe they are perceived as a grandma plant? Don’t know but they are awesome.

My mom grew a coleus back in the 70s when she worked in an office and he got so big, she could hide behind him. His name was Edgar. I got her a coleus a few months ago (meant to call it Edgar Two, but she's decided this is Edgarette). Edgarette is already needing a bigger pot and is much bigger than when she came to live with us. Mom's really good with coleus.

Geraniums do well all year while indoors.
Citrus trees love our indoor conditions!
Rosemary does just fine if it's watered regularly, and gets plenty of light. Mine is over 5 years old.
Brynea disticha (snow bush) thrives for me, same needs as a rosemary.

I had an Asparagus Fern in a closed terrarium for 5 years and it was so happy. I was still casual about plant keeping so I stupidly took it out of the terrarium and it crisped up and died in about a week 😂

Ixora is an outdoor plant in the Caribbean and I had one decades ago . I remember how shocked I was to see my little houseplant grown as a hedge

Love love love the milky way cast iron plant! You’re right, they are very underrated!

I got a Sarracenia Venosa recently! It's under a grow light and is slowly turning into fully red! it's absolutely beautiful and cute at the same time! Definitely my favourite pitcher plant!

8:26 yes! I love begonias, but they are mostly just so exhausting... I don't have space for a greenhouse for them and now I only have 1 rex begonia that got used to my low humidity and is now doing okay (not amazing but okay, it'll suffice until I do have space, she's not actively dying (anymore)) and another one that's basically dead because it was in horrible soil and is now actively dying from root rot, but if I tried to save it it'll die because how dare I touched its roots...
I love my surviving Rex and Maculata

In the future, if I have more space, I'll most definitely put up a begonia greenhouse!

I lost my 10 year old rex begonia when I moved from Northern CA to Phoenix. I have to keep stopping myself from grabbing another one when I'm back home.

Glad you’re giving the Tradescantia some love! The zebrina you showed first was the cultivar ‘Violet Hill’, the spathacea is ‘sitara’ and the fluminensis is actually mundula ‘Lisa’. Fluminensis and mundula are often mislabeled as each other in stores.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also acalypha and geranium. And allegedly hibiscus and gardenia, but oh how they broke my heart. For people with bitter winters, there’s something special about caring for an ‘outdoor’ plant in January. It’s like you win somehow
