use FISHING MAGNETS basically a round magnet with a ring screw  through it with a length of paracord to scan the floor and my sweepings to pick up "lost" items, it works for most screws, bolts, parts etc, the paracord means i do not have to bend over looking for parts
Love your work and videos, cheers from England

Interesting thing about British woodwork in the "good-old-days".

After coming off the copy lathe, the wood was inspected and gauged, then STORED for weeks or months in drums of Linseed oil..Some places, like Lithgow, later added Creosote to the oil, giving it that distinctive smell. The creosote was to ward off mould / rot in soggy tropical areas. Apparently, a lot of Arisakas were "treated" with potassium Permanganate for the same reason.

Rifles were tools; basically bayonet extension poles  that could get loud and nasty beyond the "revered" bayonet range.

The "spirit of the pike" died hard, unlike the "cream" of Imperial manhood.

To get some idea of the "condition" of "recovered" rifles booked in for triage at a "frontline" workshop, search for some interesting WW1 "official" photos. I remember one showing stacks of broken and mud-encrusted No 1 rifles and a few Gew-98 "pick-ups, but I can't seem to put my fingers on that file.

You are the man! So entertaining m98 is the only rifle I have new sold and has been with me since I was a teen.

Show how to cut dovetails with a file

Not only was Murphy an optimist but his best friend is Darwin.

Listening to you work is like looking in a mirror for me  when I'm working on boats.  Very practical and unimpressed with technology .   We never quit learning  and we will never know everything we need to know.

I watched both episodes concurrently, and it was just barely long enough for me Mark, I love watching your work and how thoroughly you explain the necessity of each step you perform. In the vernacular, you really give a shit, and thus follow through the needed functions for every job so beautifully. Always a pleasure Mark.

A brilliant restoration.

always a pleasure to watch a "true" craftsman at work.

Awesome blog🎉🎉

Is that a Mauser with a drop box magazine conversion??!!? 😍

wonderful job
thank you 🇸🇦

It's amazing just how much you use that little pecker.

You make a 62 year old man grin like a kid.If every thing would slam fire how great that would be.Every teacher should have to be your apprentice.

amazing thank you

That was amazing thank you

Thank you Mark. Very informative and humorous .

Good video Mark.  I have a Kar 98 AZ brought back by my uncle from WWII.  It's  a 1914 Erfurt with the 1920 Treaty of Versailles stamp.  All matching, not duffel cut, and all the capture screws.  Very good shape and lots of history behind it.

box mag on a battel rifle ?.... guess those kruats weren't that smart after all. The movies glorify them, but we know how they can be problematic.

Thanks Mark ART love ❤️ It
