In my delusional meanderings, I've often thought about how cool it would have been to have C Lee and P Cushing as uncles. I'm jealous of those people who did.

As a teenager I would would watch anything that was done by Hammer they were masters of gothic horror , this documentary was a real treat ,and gave the company and films long overdue credit they deserve.

Back in 2007 I had the great honour of meeting Sir Christopher Lee. We had a lengthy conversation about his vast catalogue of work; mainly his time working with Hammer & also The Wicker Man.

I have been a fan for as long as I can remember; growing up watching him in his classic roles of Dracula, The Mummy, Lord Summerisle etc.

He was an absolute delight to talk to & as imposing as you can imagine. Im 6ft 2” tall & he dwarfed me 😂 It is a memory I’ll always cherish.

Hats off to Hammer films, and to the best Dracula of all time, Sir Christopher Lee.

Arguably the best documentary about this genre

This is the much longer extended edition that was never shown on BBC One back then :-)

Peter Cushing's last ever work was as a narrator for this documentary...

My first exposure to films from Hammer studios were, "The Quatermass Xperiment" and "X - The Unknown." As a kid, both of those films gave me lasting nightmares. Likewise, for "Five Million Years to Earth."

Hammers original Dracula scared me as a kid when I had it on video tape. I ironically find hammer now very relaxing

Oh, yes, in my estimation Hammer Films meant stellar entertainment always.Thank's for this doc.

It is refreshing to watch a documentary that examines the strengths, excesses and poor judgements made by individuals who make up one nation’s film studio. This kind of frank, “warts ‘n all” honesty was rare enough when this documentary was made. Can you imagine similar critical judgements being made in documentaries on the hegemonic, North American streaming platforms today?

I always enjoyed Jimmy Sangster's no nonsense, no bullshit approach.

I was so pleased when Hammer films made a comeback in the early 2000's - especially with "The Woman in Black" starring Daniel Radcliffe (2012). It was an awesome scary movie! My personal fave Hammer film was The Gorgon.
