I like how this turned out, and the idea to change the paint scheme. It really looks like it fits into the railroad well. As far as the roof ribbing goes, there may be other ways to think about doing it, but those ideas come with long time experience.
I have built several main line, silver streak, ye old huff&puff and ambroid kits. Definitely an entirely different skill set to build these types of kits for sure.
Building these kits takes skill, skills come from experience and a desire to improve. All of which comes from building several kits. We can see that you are well on your way to success. Thanks for helping others learn this almost forgotten and rewarding aspect of model building. The decals game out great. Looking forward to seeing your rebuild of the coach.
I watched this video whist sanding away at a very similar Silver Streak kit, thanks for sharing. Love the old wood kits!
The green coach appears to be from an early run of the Northeastern/Ambroid B&M coach kit, fitted with Central Valley trucks. Later runs feature a hollow roof that allowed the clerestory windows to be modeled rather than merely simulated. The coach is missing the end step castings and railings, and the roof has been sawed off some. The slack modeling of the roof end curvature and trim could be fixed in a restomod build.
Those kits are from the 1950s. huff bought up a bunch of other companies kits like Silver Streak. Suydam likewise bought up Ayres and others. Good times!
