I've been reef keeping for almost 30 years, and I can promise you one thing: I've made A LOT of mistakes along the way.
In this video, I'm just sitting down and talking about reef keeping, how I got started, what the hobby was like back then, some of the mistakes I've made, what those mistakes taught me, and how my approach to saltwater aquariums has changed over the years.
This isn't a step-by-step guide or a list of rules for building the perfect reef tank. It's a conversation about nearly three decades of keeping saltwater aquariums, learning through experience, getting things wrong, figuring out why, and becoming a better reef keeper because of it.
Whether you're setting up your first saltwater aquarium or you've been keeping reef tanks for years, hopefully some of my experiences can help you avoid a few of the mistakes I made or at least remind you that making mistakes is part of learning this hobby.

It feels like every month I discover a new intruder or issue. So I also can't say what really works for me.
My algae and cleaners are doing great and are currently the only inhabitants, while I figure out how to stabalise the tank. I love it.
They were cool with just a spongefilter that blows bubbles, roomtemperature, topping off the water and irregular waterchanges.
If I want the tank to be wonderful, I have to fix a lot of that. To much debrie building up. Steps are in practise, but I can't just do it all at once.
I have had tanks that needed constant attention, and others that just work. There is definitely a new level to reef keeping with technology and equipment availability. Imo Some macros are just as hard as corals. Some need cooler water others need intense light some need trace elements just like corals. For me I have to dose phosphate because I cannot feed enough or keep my phosphate above .03 due to the caulerpa in the sump. I just threw out about 2 pounds of prolifera to stop cyano from forming in the tank.
