Im a brass ankle, and im very proud to see that we’ve made it to a YouTube video. My great grandmother came straight from 17A down here in Berkeley county. You can’t swing a dead cat down here without hitting one of us!

We have Black Portuguese heritage and DNA in the Carolinas. Even some of my grandparents spoke Portuguese.

My DNA test came back as being very English, but growing up in the Pee Dee I was told not to talk to strangers about 'your people'... especially government look strangers and law men. Silence was a valuable social tool back in the day.

For all who see this video. Research the dilemma of the PLATT FAMILY OF FLORIDA. From the 1950s.My mother's paternal side of the family were all White passing Creoles from Louisiana. They dared not try to pass if they remained in Louisiana.Simply because their surnames were known by both the Black and White communities. In terms of the legacy of placage.Meaning White men who maintained both White and mixed race families. The ones that left Louisiana after Plessy vs Ferguson decided to pass as White in other parts of the country. Never to maintain contact with the family again. With the advent of ancestry DNA.These long lost Branches of the community(family) are now reaching out. I have met many of these people. They all look drop dead White. But the discovery of even the smallest amount of Black ancestry has caused different reactions. Many have simply shrugged their shoulders. But a few nearly had nervous breakdowns. Which tells me the racial dynamics from an American point of view. May have more to do with purity rather than appearance. When has race in this country not mattered?And we all damn well know it.

I always suspected but had it confirmed with DNA testing that my great,great, grandmother from the low country was mixed. She was able to pass and was identified as white

One thing I haven't understood how people will say there's no way there is black in my bloodline when in the south salvery was all around down there and plantation owners slept with black women and had kids It's time to tell the truth and people to stop saying there ain't no black in my bloodline Stop deneying your heritage even though ya hate it and them that doesn't change anything because of hate it can be your lineage and ya can't change that Life back then was Ancestors of different kinds

Haha do not tell ? Hell they didnt tell us. My grandma asked her nom who was her dad and she said she ignored her and then later told her to dont ask her no more. She said so they never asked again. Shes 85 and still dont know. Had his name on birth certificate but when time to go to school her mother told her her last name was something differently and she used it .
