In our latest Trade to Black podcast, presented by Flowhub, hosts Shadd Dales and Anthony Varrell kick off the week with news from one of the largest cannabis companies in the U.S. Trulieve (NYSE: TRLV) announced an exclusive master licensing agreement with Connected for the rights to genetics, trademarks, and proprietary know-how to produce and sell Alien Labs and Connected branded cannabis products in Florida and Texas.

Trulieve has been the exclusive provider of both brands in Florida since 2022, and this deal locks that in under a perpetual, royalty-free license. Connected founder Caleb Counts calls it one of the most successful brand licensing relationships in cannabis, built on genetics from Connected's proprietary breeding program.

Trulieve plans to add new product categories and form factors in Florida, introduce both brands in Texas pending final licensure and regulatory approvals, and has the opportunity to negotiate rights in additional expansion markets.

In segment two, Michael Bronstein, President of the American Trade Association for Cannabis and Hemp, joins for his weekly Insiders Edge segment.

They start in Pennsylvania, where House Speaker Joanna McClinton says adult-use legalization could happen next year if Democrats flip three State Senate seats in November, with the governor's race adding a second variable.

They then get into the pressure state officials are putting on the DEA for clearer communication on how the Schedule III medical framework is supposed to work. The Cannabis Regulators Association and California's top cannabis regulator both say federal guidance is missing, with open questions on dual-license registration, caregivers, and inconsistent answers from regional DEA offices.

That leads to whether Attorney General Todd Blanche should issue a memo laying out the national framework once rescheduling is finalized.
