It’s rarely mentioned but the Niners first TD was the same play as The Catch, except there was motion and Solomon doesn’t slip. The Cowboys actually read the play perfectly at the end of the game because they recognized it. Montana just made a hell of a play.
Cowboys only drafted 1 pro bowler, in 7 seasons, from 1980-1986. Each year, they were losing key veterans to retirement and replacing them with late round picks and free agents. It was their own front office who sent the Cowboys into an 80s abyss.
My grandfather, Arlan, in 1957 moved the family from Lincoln, Nebraska to San Jose, California. He worked at the Ford plant in Milpitas, California for 33 years. I was born in 1973. I was created in Buffalo New York, but born in San Jose, California. I was just a little boy when this game happened. My grandfather was a staunch 49ers fan. The 49ers had been terrible for years. Ironically his favorite players were Roger Staubach and O.J. Simpson. Simpson ended his career as a 49er. During the 1981 season the 49ers destroyed Dallas. I remember him saying during that game the 49ers now have their Roger Staubach. Damn was he right. Joe Montana was such a great QB. That 1981 team started up a very close friendship I had with my grandfather throughout the 1980s. The old man passed away in 1989. Our last game together was Super Bowl XXIII. I find myself watching the 1981 49ers team the most. It was a special group of men. That Josh Allen kid in Buffalo reminds me of Joe Montana. The old man would’ve been 91 today. Thank you for the upload. I subscribed. All the best.
Oh and on Ronnie Lott.. I had three random encounters with him...One was at a "STLYSTICS" concert at "CIRCLE STAR THEATER" in San Carlos, a few miles South of CANDLESTICK PARK..He was very nice and engaged in a converstion with my girlfriend and me...The Second, I was attendeding a Wedding at "Valco Fashion Park in Palo Alto" not very far from his Town House in on Saratoga Avenue in Santa Clare, CALIFORNIA, about a 40 minute drive to Candlestick Park....l saw him and told him that the Groom was a huge fan as was I. He went into the Reception Hall, spoke with groom and went around the room saying hi to the wedding guest..about 40 minutes. Very nice and gracious.... The THIRD time...Well, that was a little more DUBIOUS....I was working at an office on Saratoga Avenue in Santa Clara, just down the street from the aforementioned Town House..I was in the middle of 4 lane street. 2 in one direction and 2 in the opposite direction with 6 foot concrete center divider..I had just got to the center diver and about to step of it when I noticed a red car, a Ferrari going a tad to fast😮😮...I stopped my step and I said too myself ""HOLLY SHYT, THAT WAS RONNIE LOTT. I ALMOST GOT RAN OVER BY RONNIE LOTT"" 😅😅😅 If one asks Google if RONNIE LOTT ever lived in Santa Clara...It will say he lived in a modest townhouse...OKAY..If one can call a gated townhouse on a private 9 hole golf course in the "Heart of Silicon Valley" modest..Well okay😂😂😂😂 14:0414:04
I had just turned 17 when this game was played, and now at 61, I’m just as salty about that (non) interference call against Lott in the first half as I was back then.
Errors I spotted: 10:09 That is from the Cowboys-49ers regular season game in Week 6; the baseball infield in the background gives it away (you can also see the Cowboys on the opposite sideline). 26:30 Danny White is not wearing sleeves. 58:01 That is a game from either 1986, 1987, or 1988 (the Cowboys players have numbers on their pants; I also spotted Nate Newton in the huddle). 58:07 That shot is from Super Bowl XIX (Joe Montana is wearing sleeves and Bill Walsh is wearing a different sweater). 59:37 That is a game from Texas Stadium (the blueish lighting being the giveaway).
