Second year living in Malaysia.
Honestly, just breathing is exhausting.
The cost of living, water, toilets, healthcare, sense of time...
I was prepared, but I didn't expect it to be this difficult.
But even so, there are valid reasons why I continue to live here.

日本は日本の生活様式、マレーシアはマレーシアの生活パターンがあります。行ったらスイッチを切り替える必要があります。
好き嫌い、合う合わないがあります。どうしても駄目の場合は無理に合わせる必要はないと思います。
世界が広いので、好きな場所に住みたいですね。

まあ、どこの国でも同調圧力はあると思います。米国、タイの居住経験と同僚たちの話聞いてそう思います。その国にとっての外国人が多い多様性地域ってのは、いろいろ「他人事」です。そういう地域は初めは住みやすいんですけど、コミュニティーに入ったほうが実は安心できて住みやすい。言葉の問題はついて回りますけれど。同化するか戦かは人によると思いますね。
そして是非英語のみならずマレー語やマンダリン(華語)にも少しだけで良いので興味を持って勇気を出して使ってみて下さい、現地の方々との距離が一気に縮まります
海外移住での葛藤はあると思いますが、我々在外邦人はその地で住まわせていただいている立場、いわばその地のインフラや文明に昨日今日来てタダ乗りさせていただいている立場です、その気持を忘れずに楽しんで下さい
