Scammers have no soul. They do these things without emotion.

I work for a luxury watch boutique and honestly - it should have been noticed by staff that she was vulnerable. She would not have been gleefully making this large purchase - they would have sensed it was unusual and most likely only thought of their commission.

Keep Bank Branches open, so people can actually see bank staff face to face

I’m also concerned HOW they knew she’d lost her bank card and HOW much money she’d got in her bank account?  Wondering if it was someone close to her???

I'm so shocked that the bank allowed her to withdraw such a large amount of cash! I remember about 2/3 years ago, I was in the bank and there was an elderly woman in there with her son trying to withdraw some money out, nowhere near as much as Janet, and they REFUSED to give it to her! They were VERY diligent on asking what it was for because it was more than her normal amount, and i clearly  remember her saying it was money to give to her son, who was with her, because he was going to some country to bury a family member and the cash was to help towards the funeral, and the woman Cashier, said "NO"....if 'they' as in the family had an account, then 'they'(as in the bank) would transfer the money over! And the 'son' got really upset by saying things such as " it's her money...give her her money..." etc etc along with some profanities, which made the Cashier even more suspicious and she WOULDN'T back down! Needless to say, they walked out without the money! I was the next in line, and i told the Cashier "Well Done for sticking to her guns!" When i hear stories like what happened to Janet, it reminds me of that incident! Very Sad😞

I got one of these calls from a woman saying a similar story (i.e. my card had been used in a city very far from where I lived and the transaction didn't go through),  I initially thought this can't be a police woman because the police are never this efficient!

I get this all the time, and it takes seconds to put the phone down and ignore these people

Heartless scammers, they cause confusion then attack! Hope they get caught and put behind bars where they belong! Thanking this brave eloquent lady for her experience that will help others.

Janet sharing her story will likely save others. Glad to know she has support through this. She will be stronger for this experience - wish her and her family the very best.

God bless her, she's so lovely. How can people be so cruel? 😢

Scammers are upping their game. The last one who called me was talking about unfinished  repair jobs in my house and told her I am homeless,  can you get me a property? She puts down the phone like a second 😂

I was scammed by this bunch!  Same story -  a call from Police in Putney who had caught someone using my bank card in Oxford St,  not to contact my bank, wanted me to transfer money for a 'sting' operation, verified they were the real police by dialling 999 (I realised they had held the line).  They had me about to transfer money when the guy got annoyed with me,  just for a moment but enough to make me realise this wasn't quite right and I hung up.  Afterwards I realised how ridiculous their story was and felt pretty silly.  Now I cut off any call if they say there has been unusual activity on my bank a/c

I wish she had asked her son for advice. My father in law fell for an investment scam. A very hard working and intelligent man, but if only he had talked to his sons about it, they would have immediately advised him against it. I think elderly people either dont want to bother children,  or dont want to seem less able to cope with these situations.

Police will never get involved with you directly about any fraudulent activity unless you contact them. It will always be your bank account to reach you first.

Having worked in a bank , you cannot withdraw that sort of money, without the bank going through various forms of due diligence, plus the withdrawal wouldn’t happen without notice , cannot actually believe it, something not right with her story

The bank should of asked what the money was for and refused to give the money.

What a sick society we live in.

I feel really sorry for her, but come on!

a ‘policeman’ suggested she spend her life savings on Rolex watches to protect her money and give them to a stranger.  🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

None of that scam even makes sense! Why would someone taking away watches protect her savings? And why would there be money left in her account if the scammers had access to it? And if the bank had blocked the card then that’s have been the end of the problem!
Guys, the bank don’t know about bank fraud unless you tell them about it.
This is the most bizarre story I’ve ever heard!

Terrible..what lengths will these Scammers go!
