I tried to follow Jesus, but He kept running into alleyways and hiding among crowds, so I had to give up eventually

Dan Dan Dan. If Brooks didn't have double standards he wouldn't have standards at all. 😊

I just wish Christians were actually taught what the bible says, rather than just told what they're supposed to think it says.

I so, SO appreciate 1)  these videos, 2) the comment section!!  3) the articles, texts and books that you refer to and recommend.  Knowledge is power.  Thanks!

During my undergrad I had to study Medieval Castilian troubadour poetry. The amount of transmission problems surrounding a popular story like 12th century's Song of the Cid is nerve wrecking. And that's a millenium closer to us than the Gospels... Those apologists should try surviving a Philology undergrad program before speaking about transmission of oral traditions.

I really want Jesus to come back so he can tell Christians “I didn’t say that.”

I really appreciate how Dan tries to raise the standard of debate by citing sources and engaging with the argument.  I am not sure how successful he is in the grand scheme of things but it's an essential project.
In this case the apologist's condescension reveals an astounding lack of intellectual humility and would seem to indicate a need to validate his own sense of what is meaningful. To consider criticisms of ones ideology when you are young and still making sense of yourself as an adult can be threatening so let's stay optimistic and hope for a reasoned response to Dan's critique.

The best explanation is never "magic happened"

"Have you found Jesus, Forrest?"
"I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him." -Forrest Gump

I was following Jesus until around and told me to stop being creepy

Loving the subtle, understated new thumbnail aesthetic.

I've heard it said that most men can't find the tuning fork. 🤷🏻

I remember in grade school being asked to participate in a study on the reliability of oral transmission. It was a game called ‘telephone.’

all this talk of memorization culture was fun, I think I need to reread Fahrenheit 451.

Why does it sound like even Jesus didn't follow Jesus?

The content is good but I'm here for the fit, and today's is one of my favorites.

About the issue of accurate oral traditions: I was always taught in the context of the Iliad and the Odyssey that the oral traditions were a sort of a overall framework of the story that would be inadvertently and sometimes deliberately changed to suit the audience. My English teacher suggested that during the time, that wandering storytellers were a prime mode of entertainment. Of course, people want stories that make them feel good so the storyteller would use the usual framework, but might change the names to reflect a vague association with the audience or their ancestors.

every time there's a video like this that doesn't have the person in question apologizing as the top comment it should be considered the end of their career

Today's fit was exceptional! Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is still the best Disney ride.
