how can anyone compares today's music with this magic master piece?!

@nancyskomars1230 9 months ago

One of the most difficult aspects of being your age (youngish) is there are decades of music before you that will blow you away. People my age (oldish) had fewer decades of recorded music to hear but what we heard was the best! You got homework, kid!!💖💖🥰🥰

Mark tells the story, his guitar sings it.

Dire Straits is certainly making a come back, at least in reactions. Mark Knoppfler, What a treasure!! He is now an old man with all of the guitar genius, clearly the world sexiest voice and he's mastered the art of storytelling.

I never tire of watching/hearing this fantastic performance ❤❤❤

Dire Straits are pure storytellers. Watch "Telegraph Road" from the same concert and "Tunnel of Love" from their Wembley performance in 1985. More epic to come, for sure.

Mark Knopfler (in red) is in his 70s now and still working. He retired from touring in 2019, but his most recent album came out in 2024 and he owns a recording studio in London. Alan Clark (the keyboard player with straight hair) still plays live occasionally and has a concert in Manchester this week (December 11, 2025).

One big similarity between Dire Straits and Fleetwood Mac is that both Knopfler and Lindsey Buckingham (the lead guitarist for Fleetwood Mac) are fingerstyle players. That means they pluck the guitar strings with fingers and thumb rather than with a plectrum (guitar pick). That's not typical in rock... it's more common in folk and it's the standard in classical guitar. But they do it when they're playing electric as well.

it was a joy to see a reaction from someone that just sat and enjoyed the whole experience, i know sometimes a pause is needed for copyright reasons, but this was a refreshing change.

Well, it's good to have a variety of music under your belt for several reasons, but mainly because your tastes will change with age, relationships, and experiences.

Great band, great song, many more to look into
Thanks for your reaction

When I first discovered this live performance I listened to it several times a day for 6 months!! I still watch it at least once a week.😊

I had forgotten how good this was ❤

Its a masterpiece 😊

Mark Knopfler was definitely the bloke who made short sleeved blazers and sweatbands look cool. And that Red Stratocaster... There's something both overt and understated about that whole look! It's so 80's, but his smile makes it timeless. Great reaction to a great performance.

It's like trying to stop a freight train at the end! 😆

One of the greatest guitar players. He is up there with Roy Clark and Jerry Reed. Notice he is playing with his fingers and no pick.

@johnathanstruble1064 9 months ago

They took the drum kit off stage on a stretcher, in critical condition. Thankfully it pulled through. 😂❤

Dire Straits is one of the best bands ever! Thanks for your honest opinion and the fact that you are willing to listen to music outside of your comfort zone. If you want another one, please check out Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Life Without You," live from the Capitol Theatre, 1985. I assure you it will blow your mind...

There are definitely lyrics, a whole story but if you were lost in the musical performance I can understand that. One of the finest performances by any band.
I did like your reaction to Knopfler finishing the track. Never seen anyone react to that and
I love it.
