5 Mile Rd & Fenkell Ave: Plymouth Township to Detroit Real-Time Drive

A quiet drive east on 5 Mile from the western suburbs to Fenkell Ave in Detroit.
We will start today’s drive going north on Northville Rd and turning right onto 5 Mile Rd in Plymouth Township. If we veer left and continue up Northville, 5 Mile continues west but, at this point, we’re on the edge of what is generally considered as metro Detroit. The first section of 5 Mile on today’s trip actually goes north along Phoenix Lake. (to the left just behind the trees) We will go past the northern edge of Madonna University, Trinity Hospital, and the Livonia Civic Center as we head towards the city.
It's mostly cloudy but the clouds are light enough that it's a bright day. I love days like this because it's not so bright to need sunglasses but light enough to enjoy Michigan's summer colors. It's also warm enough to have the windows open. We get to hear our car's engine, road noise, and some ambient sounds of city traffic.
Once we cross Telegraph, we are in the city of Detroit and 5 Mile changes names to become Fenkell Ave. As we continue east on Fenkell through Detroit, we will pass through the Brightmoor, Rosedale Park Historic District, Grand River St Marys, and Bethune neighborhood/districts. Our day's journey ends at Rosa Parks Blvd, where the road is completely closed for construction.
