Summary: My pockets are too empty to be stressing over children.

Just like rats, humans dont breed when stressed out

It’s almost like they don’t want us to have kids

Too expensive, job security is a myth, no village.

Back in middle school, due to fears of teenage pregnancy, we were taught a lot of stuff to scare everyone away from the horizontal tango. STDs, social stigma, nothing worked... Until they decided to teach us how much would cost the bare minimum, like a package of diapers, baby formula and etc.

We can barely feed ourselves, why drag another human to our misery?

I am an egineer and so is my husband... I am currently pregnant with our second kid and I got layed off. Not because of performance or anything, but at the company I have worked for layed off thousands of people and of course they do not want a pregnant one... Also before I got layed off, we could not even buy a house or vacations because if you are an engineer, you need to move to a big city and it is very expensive. I feel like society does not support us enough and even one kid is sooo expensive. You can not 'save your way' out of bills in order to save up to a house anymore.... At this point you start questioning if you can give your kids a life they deserve. BUT why should an engineer couple (both with master's degrees) struggle so much? We have been promised that if you study hard, work hard, you can get basic stuff like house, car... but it is a big fat lie...

Its not just the money. Society treats families disgustingly. A child is not allowed to make sound or mess or being a child. Parents are treated like they dont raise their child properly because they cant control a developping brain...its wild out here.

I will never have kids. I don’t want to raise someone into this hellscape of a world, nor do I want to be financially crippled

Is nobody going to point out that people had children so they could work as their employees? And it was common that the older siblings took care of the younger ones.

Some people with specific mental illnesses and personality disorders are also scared of passing it down to their children or abusing them into becoming monsters that make the news

I remember telling my mom that I don't wanna have any children. I was 13 at the time and now I'm 22 and still don't want any, now for different reasons. I still remember how much I had to hear that I would never find anyone for me, since all women want babies and that I would die alone. Now, hearing all these people come out to say that they don't want kids is really comforting

It's hard enough trying to find someone who you genuinely love and can see yourself with. I'd rather be alone than settle down with someone who makes me feel alone.

Basically baby boom is slowing down and the population is now stabilizing from 8 billion to probably 5-6 billion

The sad part is that I for one do want to start a family, but finances are so bad I don't even want to get into a relationship with how bad things are. The added bonus of living with my parents in my mid twenties doesn't help me either.

The education for woman thing makes sense. The companies and economy and government saw two incomes and didn’t think twice before raising prices insanely

Nothing like being a 28 yo with no degrees no job experience no skills no social interaction and living with your overprotective parents who makes clear that you cant do anything on your own...

I want to form a family with 2 kids but so far that future gets more and more blurrier.

This is exactly why I'm iffy with having kids. I know for sure that I can be a great parent, guardian, teacher, and helper around the house. But the future just isn't hopeful, prices are too expensive, dating scene is screwed, and job market is being run by AI is leading me to either no kids or just one after my 30s. Combine that with lots of mental health stuff and food being either unhealthy or too expensive and the current field we're all playing in feels much more rigged against our favor.
