As a Korean and a seouler, I am quite surprised at how accurate and detail this couple knows about the city. I agree with everything they say especially overrated areas like MyungDong and HongDae.

The vibes at Cheonggyecheon stream at night are peak!! Office workers with their shoes off eating convenience store snacks with friends. Couples on dates. Live music. The lights of the buildings reflecting on the water. It's totally different. The reading library was also amazing, but even when it's not there, I love it at night ✨

One thing you guys forgot to mention is Han River Park !! That place is the best spot for picnic, beautiful city view

Korean here, and i really liked that "what to skip in Seoul" part... Every tourists should watch that part if they want to visit Seoul literally..

As a Korean, I approve this video. If you’re tired of shopping, I recommend these places:
1) MMCA (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art): they always have cool exhibitions here all year round. It’s right next to the Palace. Don’t miss the performance art they do every few minutes!!

2) Han River Parks: If you’re visiting in the spring-fall, don’t skip on the river gaze at Han River parks! The neighborhood with the nicest park is Yeouido or Banpo. If you’re going in March and April, cherry blossoms in Yeouido is a must-see. If you’re visiting in the summer, I recommend going at night to avoid getting heat stroke lol

3) Leeum Museum of Art: smaller than MMCA, but they also have great exhibitions. It’s a great place to visit if you want to cool down in the Itaewon area!

15:57 Contrary to popular belief, the 'Gangnam' in 'Gangnam Style' doesn't just refer to Gangnam Station; it carries a much broader socio-economic meaning. In Korea, 'Gangnam' represents the rich districts south of the Han River ; Gangnam-gu, Seocho-gu, and Songpa-gu.

Gangnam Station is only a tiny slice of the actual Gangnam area. Historically, this spot has been famous for its private academies (hagwons) and language centers rather than being a luxury landmark. While you can find plenty of affordable bars and restaurants there, it doesn't truly capture the 'luxurious Gangnam vibe' people expect.

As a Korean, I always tell my friends this, but they still end up at Gangnam Station 😂

I am Korean, and I can say only foreign tourists goes to Myeongdong lol. And about Hongdae, if you go there with research and right time of the yr, you can enjoy some real good art project and stuff, cause Hongdae is like the most famous art school in Korea

That’s right. Myeongdong is awful. Gwangjang Market is not good. Hongdae is also too crowded. It used to have lots of unique shops, but these days it’s mostly predictable, generic stores.

However, I can’t agree with your opinion about Cheonggyecheon! Except for the middle of the day when the sun is blazing, it’s lovely in the morning and just as nice in the evening. At night, the lights come on and it becomes really beautiful. Personally, I love Cheonggyecheon in the late afternoon.

My favorite places in Seoul have been Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwanghwamun Square, Cheonggyecheon, Seokchon Lake (Jamsil), Namsan, Ikseon-dong Hanok Village, Bukhansan (the best place if you enjoy hiking), Seongsu-dong, and Haebangchon, among others.

I've lived in Seoul for 2.5 yrs and I fully agree with most of your assessments. I will say, there are parts of Hongdae area that are quite nice - I particularly like the 경의선숲길 (Gyeongui Line Forest Park) which is a nice green walkway running east to west with a stream through the middle, and it's also kind of fun to watch the random buskers and high school dance groups. Also, Cheonggyecheon also really nice during the lantern festival around Christmas time.

My one other hot tip is that I LOVE renting the Seoul Bikes (cheap, but the app is a bit buggy, user beware) in the spring/fall. There are so many lovely biking trails - many along the Han River and along the other streams as well. Favorite routes are: 1) Seoul Forest -> Ttukseom Park -> Olympic Park, 2) Hapjeong/Mangwon going west and then back.

Regarding transit:
- I highly recommend looking into the Climate Card. It was introduced early 2024 as a monthly pass but now has short-term (1,2,3,5,7 days?) and will save a lot of money over the T-money as a tourist. If you ride more than 2x a day it already pays for itself.
- I know ppl might feel intimidated to ride the bus, but I honestly way prefer bus over subway. The subways are always sooo packed, and the buses connect to lots of other places and usually with fewer ppl. The one thing to note is that it's required to both tap on AND off.
