Exploring the esoteric London locations of Aleister Crowley with ‪@MarcoVisconti‬ This walking tour weaves a web of mystery and magick through a portion of central London forever haunted by the man known as The Great Beast. Starting at Cleopatra's Needle on the Embankment we head up to Charing Cross, St Martin's Lane to Watkins Bookshop in Cecil Court which has been on the site for over 120 years. We then follow the magic thread to Henrietta Street in Covent Garden and from here drift across the Piazza to Freemasons' Hall - one of the most mysterious and beguiling locations in London.
Our 'Crowley Crawl' takes us up Kingsway to Museum Street in Bloomsbury and the brilliant Atlantis Bookshop which "was established in 1922 by magicians, for magicians. It is the birth-place of modern witchcraft, with Gerald Gardner holding regular coven meetings in the basement of the Shop." It was also a favourite bookshop of Aleister Crowley. The final leg of our walk of mystery and magic takes us down Oxford Street, Kingley Street to Regent Street, ending at 93 Jermyn Street where Crowley lived for a period of time.

Dear John I’m grateful to have introduced one of the most intriguing person that happen to be Italian by origin like am I and I do share like you guys the story of London having myself been living for some years residing in St John Street I have been fascinated by the historical places all around the old city. I only regret that I had to leave London and now I will only enjoy to visit London as visitor with a limited time but I’m happy for having the opportunity to discover some of the places you mentioned in your videos. You started in one of my favorite places from our first trip to London on the Thames embankment at the Sphinxes. We have pictures sitting at the feet of those wonderful statues. Walking so many of the streets by myself, with my husband and on walking tours, there were so many places like this that, though my family has been in the US for eight generations, I still felt like so much of it was familiar -- there on the Strand, Smithfield and the entrance to St. Bartholomew the Great, and on Cornhill. I keep thinking if I get to go again and walk enough, I might find Diagon Alley. London is magical! Thank you John, and Marco, for this magical mystery walk!!

A fascinating tour, always amazed by finding new facts about familiar places.

Covent Garden is so closely to your recent tour of Bedford connected to the Dukes of Bedford and their family names like Russell St and (the Marquis of) Tavistock St, and a particular favourite Henrietta Street, where the great Victorian avant-garde artist Aubrey Beardsley worked for The Studio.

Thanks John and Marco for an enlightening video. Have always shied away from looking too deeply into Aleister Crowley world and phenomena as seems too dark and creepy but feels more comfortable having a better context and understanding around it. 😊
