Are bathroom tiles becoming a thing of the past?
Micro cement has become increasingly popular in modern bathrooms, and in this video I take you through a complete micro cement bathroom renovation in Hackney, London — from preparation to the finished result.
I'll show you exactly how we prepare the walls, why preparation is the most important part of a micro cement installation, how we build bespoke MDF units ready for micro cement, and how we achieve that seamless, minimalist look.
You'll see the complete process, including:
• Preparing the walls and surfaces
• Installing the boards and reinforcement mesh
• Building bespoke bathroom units
• Priming and applying micro cement
• Applying the final coats and sealer
• The finished bathroom transformation
I'll also explain why I personally prefer micro cement over tiles, and what makes modern resin-based micro cement different from older systems.
One of the biggest advantages is the ability to create completely bespoke features and then micro cement them for a seamless finish — something that can be difficult or expensive to achieve with traditional tiles.
So, are bathroom tiles really dying?
Watch until the end for my honest opinion on micro cement vs traditional bathroom tiles.
💬 Would you choose micro cement or tiles? Let me know in the comments.

What a beautiful effect
it's so difficult to execute a job like this. I'm really impressed,.I renovate bathrooms for a living and appreciate an excellent job like this, inspiring work, you have a great team :-)
Key phases of the installation process include:
Preparation (1:42 - 9:16):
This is emphasised as the most critical step. The process involves installing OSB boards for a solid foundation, followed by insulation/cementious boards (Jacker boards), and building custom vanity and storage units out of moisture-resistant MDF.
Priming and Mesh Application (12:50 - 13:13):
A dedicated primer is applied, and reinforcement mesh is placed over the joints of the insulation boards to prevent future cracking.
Micro Cement Application (14:11 - 15:00):
Two base coats and one final coat are applied, with sanding performed between each layer to ensure a smooth finish.
Sealing (14:20):
Three layers of a seal coat are applied to protect the surface.
Why choose micro cement?
Daniel highlights the aesthetic benefits of a seamless, minimalist look without the need for visible trims. Additionally, micro cement allows for the creation of bespoke, cost-effective furniture that can be easily customised to fit specific spaces
