When I had a MG Metro 1275 A+ in a 1984 Metro with breathing mods back in the mid/late '80's, I had it rolling road tuned twice, firstly just to check it was running about right.
But then, after a while I had it tuned again by Peter Baldwin who really got it spot on, it really came alive, along with a rear anti roll bar from a 'Metro Turbo' and 'Turbo' sized wheels and tyres rear it was a bit of a street sleeper, 'Q car' on twisty roads and lanes😊.

That's what its all about. The smile it puts on your face. Sounds great with that airbox.

Can’t tell you the last time I saw a real mechanic! Here in the USA we have many parts changers and very few true mechanical geniuses. Brilliant!

What a fascinating video. Really surprised that so many had basic problems with old or poor quality ignition components and air filters. Surely you’d replace those basic parts before getting someone to tune them.

If you add up all the time I've spent over the years, I must have spent weeks messing about with Minis and other A and B series engines.  I would guess the Adrian has forgotten more than I ever knew about tuning these things.  I could get them running OK but I'm sure none of them got close to being fully sorted.  It's great to see Mr Dodd at work.

You can't beat a well set up A or B series. SU carbs are a joy, such a clever design. They, and the standard dizzies, need such simple maintenance. Eventually, like everything they'll wear out in the end but with a bit of care its a long time coming. The distributors are also so easy to check over for basic operation of centrifugal and centrifugal advance. I have no problem with electronic ignition but reckon anologue stuff is half the fun of old cars.
Loved the extra noise from the air filter housing. I can remember my old dad (a mechanic in the 50's) saying how customers would always equate more noise with more power no matter what else he'd fixed. Always fun in Mini.

its clear from this video that Adrian spends a great deal of his time doing remedial work on set-ups where people have messed up/fitted incorrect parts and replacing poorly performing components. its also clear he's a real master of his art and is using technology that didn't exist when these engines were built to optimize everything to near modern standards. I particularly like his use of various dashpot oils to get the pick-up right, something I experimented with some 45 years ago on mates cars, when the standard oil everyone used was 'engine oil.'
note: the SU carburettor is pure genius. its incredibly simple, efficient and easy to maintain.
note: fitting a standard sized high flow air filter (e.g. K&N) is trading filtration efficiency for greater flow and usually requires some retuning to avoiding leaning out.
note: the 'Mini specialist' who ruined Julies Scalextric Mini Cooper proves that you can have all the toys, an internet connection to the AI know everything and call yourself whatever you like but without the time honoured knowledge and dedication it don't mean shi..

That K&N filter actually flows so much better it's part of the intake snarl you're hearing!
