I used this game as a way to reintroduce my friend into miniature painting.  We'd roll for our next match at the end of our play  sesion, then i'd find the minis to print, and i'd leave him to paint them.

one great thing about the stargrave/frostgrave plastics and the wargames atlantic stuff is the price and you can buy it by the sprue, models for about a pound each its a lot less of an investment to experiment with kitbashing than using GW's latest and greatest. Great stuff.

Man... I live in South America. There's no Games Workshop here, and due to the USD conversion, taxes, and all that, a kit costs from 10 to 15 times more.

In the early 2000s, I purchased a LOTR box at a huge discount from the bookstore where I used to work. The miniatures there were quite easy to assemble and I had quite a lot of fun with that and the book, which included a bunch of hobby content in it.

A couple of years ago, I got into miniatures (I lost the box after a few years and never realized wargaming was a thing outside of that box) and naturally went to Workshop stuff. Since any kit is very expensive here, I started researching to see if I could get anything. The sprues and their assembly made me think that it wasn't for me, it seemed quite out of what I'd like to do.

I'm really glad that I found Frostrgrave/Stargrave and its miniatures. While it's still expensive, it's a fraction of what a Workshop kit costs here, and any box comes with pretty much twice as many dudes. Also, the modularity of those kits is exactly what I had in mind when I thought about assembling models. Later, I found Wargames Atlantic and Mantic. I'm pretty much set on those - however, you guys at UK have so many nice and smaller model makers, I wish it were a possibility to order a few minis from each one lol.

I'm saying all this because I feel like the "Oh, I like the old days of Workshop and the way they designed older kits" is not really nostalgia. After all, I never experienced those, and while liking the 40K aesthetic, I have no interest in modern kits. These more "simple" kits have a special and unique magic to them, especially if you like kitbashing while relaxing at the end of the day.

Glad you're liking 5PFH, this game got me back into gaming after 25 years away. I went with 15mm for the easy storage and stupidly low prices. I've now got multiple crews, about 20 enemy factions, loads of scenery, and all for less than £200 spread over a couple of years.

Ivan has done such a great job with the 5 X games. My wife likes to roll the dice for helping create my characters. She enjoyed doing that and seeing me play 5 parsecs, she asked if there was a fantasy version, so now we have started a 5 leagues from the borderlands campaign. Its easy enough that shes not bombarded with rules, and all the random dice tables makes it enjoyable as she doesnt have to think of what to pick, she lets the dice decide. Its great! See you at peach con.

Rulebook: “I must leave, my planet needs me!” hurls self off shelf
Peach: visible confusion

Peachy! I was digging through my old white dwarf collection, and saw you in #365 in a battle report for War of the Ring! I couldn't believe my eyes, young Peachy from 2010!

Absolutely adore 5PFH. Such a fun ruleset. Done lots of coop campaigns with my friends with it. It's perfect for double dipping into my Stargrave collection.

the number of wargaming alternatives these days is amazing

You should do more 5 Parsecs games videos. I need to know what happens next! And more Sharpe!

Total Sharpe feel on that miniture

Great game. I use a handful of Zombicide Invader and Starfinder minis for my crew. A single box of Stargrave or Wargames Atlantic minis can provide both crew and baddies.

Really appreciate your reviews. I have fallen out of love with certain popular sci-fi game systems. Like you said, you end up thumbing through a rule book to find a stat or a rule, and that can break the flow of the game. I have a ton of sci-fi/modern miniatures that I love. It's this type of rule system that could bring them back to the table. Great video Peachy.

Welp I just found another use for my starwars legion models.

Thanks, Peachy, for continuing to introduce me to cool new stuff!!

Nice work Peachy, luckily this time I had already purchased after you mentioned before!! I do like how I can blend models form different games and rolling a crew is awesome. I need to spend more time paint the damn figures so that I reduce my piles of shame. Yes they are that bad.

100% concur. I've never been so attached to a warband; almost sad when they retired at their 20 round mark.

This is awesome!  I've been looking for a more digestible sci-fi game with simpler mechanics for the kids, and this looks perfect!   Also, hats off to the creators for the "Stellar Artois."  🤣 I'll drink to that!  Thanks so much for sharing more on 5 Parsecs, Peachy!  ❤

Love 5 Parsecs. I played multiple campaigns back-to-back after I got it.

I love the positivity. The minis looks awesome. The fun really come through in your tone.
