Sowing Next Years Grass & Baling The Last Grass of 2026
We sow the last fields with grass seed. We take out the John Deere tractor with the grass seeder and sow two different grass seed mixes on fields that we’ve cultivated and then sprayed off to form a stale seed bed. Hopefully this method of sowing fields with new grass for next year will mean less weeds grow up in the field.
We use a Stocks Ag seeder unit and carefully calibrate the seed drill before swapping from one seed mix to the next.
After we’ve finished seeing the new grass let’s that will make lots of bales in f hay next year we focus on rowing up, baling and wrapping some of the last bales we’ll make this year. We get some help from another local contractor to come and row the grass crop with their Fendt tractor, a change to see this brand of tractor in the field with us… Rick quite fancies buying a Fendt! But for now Ricks on his favourite tractor the John Deere 6R 215 with the Kuhn combination baler that wraps the bales as soon as they come out of the baler.
Will this be the last bales we make this year… we have a sneaky suspicion that there might be a few more left to make before the end of the autumn. Especially as it t was such a dry summer and the local farmers will need to law as much silage now as possible this autumn to feed the cows through the long winter ahead
