Love the idea of "non-serious" music - that's in my plan for 2026. Great video!

Very relatable vid, got the mpc sample and the microfreak like 3 weeks ago. Best purchase I’ve made and I wish I made it so much sooner!! Everytime I start a logic project I judge every single melody or rhythm through the eyes of an “audience” before it even has time to be anything and I end up doing nothing. These toys make you just go go go with whatever comes out and it’s usually comes out pretty good 👍

this video feels like im back in old youtube wow thanks for that dude

Related heavy to this video. I've also been making music strictly in front of a computer for the past 10 years. I started playing around with grooveboxes and synths and after forcing myself out of the serious mindset, I've never felt more creative. I believe it translates to when you do sit down and work on a more polished track.

I found your channel because of this video a couple of months ago. You definitely inspired me to get a Roland P-6 (aka lil bro of SP404). Being a hobbyist and never having owned an actual sampler before, it's one of the most fun and creatively liberating feelings to just go around with that thing in my pocket, record random noises and arrange them with its sequencer

Well said! On the journey it can be hard to always tell what devices will inspire you or collect dust, thankfully I’ve tried things and been able to sell them when they didn’t click.

It took me some time but I finally found my favourite workflow with the dirtywave M8 and it does everything for me that you described here. The limitations and the form factor enable me to just … play with music and do so more often.

When I get back to my DAW it’s with inspiration - or even demos, that I can build off of.

I would maybe sit at my daw once every few weeks but it’s been a few months of tinkering at least for a few minutes every day

relate to this heavy on the sampling anything i hear n like

This was a great video! I’ve been making music since ‘98. I’ve used most DAWs and there was no feeling like when I got my MPC One+ with the MPC 3.0 software. It was so inspiring to have the DAW workflow inside a box with all the plugins. I updated to an MpC live 2 Retro and I’ve made so many ideas. My hump to conquer now is how to turn those loops into a full track! It’s quite a hurdle but the gap is closing each day. 🙌🏾

very insightful point. thanks

Excellent post. Thank you.

Great video!

Pretty interesting reflections =)

Really great video. It's true that creativity benefits from many different angles of approach.
Thinking in this way frees your mind from the weight of results based productivity and also conversely actually helps you create more good/fun ideas in the long run. It's meant to be fun, right!?!

First time to the channel. I am enjoying the content and the presentation.
Music hobbyist for over 20 years and have dabbled in low stakes video here and there over that time.
I am looking for a piece of hardware, but I've put that off for now.
What I have done is gotten into VSDC video editor, initially for the audio visualizations, but it's gone further than that now.
It didn't take too much to get up and running, but I am very much enjoying working with the images and the sound and it has helped create a greater context for what I am doing sonically and getting better questions from myself for what I want to make.

It's like a perfect distraction, because it's still connected to the audio side so I'm never far from that, but it's almost fun like gaming.

The MPC is an instrument. If you play keys or guitar you might sit down and just play some random things to pass the time. In that unserious moment you might play something that you really like. That just doesn't happen when you open the DAW. You go into the DAW to work

Both of those devices have been amazing to learn and use. 100X more fun for sure, and also more productive.

퍼펙트 영상!! 좋아요💗

I ordered myself a MPC One+ recently not being sure if I like to dive into that "rabbit whole" of a music work station or if it's just a G.A.S. flare. I ended up just doing tracks using samples, internal instruments, drums and all the stuff the MPC is equipped with by default - and it was a great joy! So I'm completely with you about making music just for fun, not for a specific purpose as a legit thing. And yes, your video might also serve my confirmation bias 😁

I'm thinking of getting a Roland P-6, just for having a nice little portable sampler and sequencer. I'm kind of tired clicking in drum grooves in my DAWs. I know that the newest Novation LaunchKey has a sequencer for Ableton, but I already have a MIDI controller, so I just want something different.

Did you try the MPC software on your PC? you are glued to the screen. it's the same licenses and stores too.
