By the way, Sara. The song did have a happy ending. That was James' dad in the video. They have both been in the British military, and they would say "I'm not your son. You're not my father. We're just two grown men saying goodbye" whenever one of them was deployed.

James' dad donated a kidney years ago, but now he was suffering from terminal kidney disease in his remaining kidney and they hadn't found a match. He was actually saying goodbye to his dad in the song.

But when the song went viral a distant cousin saw it, showed up and offered their kidney to him! He survived, and is still alive. This heartfelt song saved his life.

James actually DID chase the monsters away! ❤️

Much love back to you! Stay strong! ❤️

This song kills me every time. First, because it is heartbreaking to watch two grown men who obviously love each other talking about the inevitability of saying goodbye. But, it also kills me because I don't have a close relationship with my parents (who are/were good people)... I mourn the relationship we will never have.  The honesty and beauty of these men shines so brightly.

Hey Sara! John from Ohio in the USA.

I loved your reaction. Lost my dad in 1985 after an accident. He never regained consciousness, but I believe he heard my words before they turned off the equipment that was keeping him alive. He was my best friend, and that was the toughest thing that I've ever had to do. I'm 70 now, and I still miss my daddy every single day! 😢

Thank you so much for being real! 🫶🏼

I'm watching from Port Angeles, Washington in the U.S. He wrote this song for his father (who appears in the video) his father was diagnosed with stage 4 Kidney disease. He did survive

knowing songs that make you cry is good. everybody needs to let some tears flow if you know multiple songs with different meanings that do that you can choose what you need on your own and cry a bit. if you always hold in your emotions your gonna break at some moment.

Just left Spain heading home to see my Dad in Arizona! Visited his relatives we never met or knew about. Since his family left Spain moved to Mexico in the 1500's then the U.S. Was Amazing and Fun.  Already visited my Mom's family in Mexico, Ireland and Spain 6 years ago. Same experience!

Lost my dad to pancreatic cancer in october. I was really fortunate i got to say my goodbyes to him. He passed 4 hours later. This song helps me get my emotions out about it when i need to. Great reaction

Hi Sara.... I have read that when James had the idea of doing this video for his father, that he sent his father the lyrics to the song and asked if he would be in the video. His father agreed. But this was the first time that James ever sang it to his father. Because of this video, a distant relative from Australia got tested and was found to be a match for James's father. Last time I checked, his dad was still doing well.  So in the end, James did indeed chase his father's monster away. I enjoyed your reaction. Take care and be well.  Peace.

"Despite our differences, you can rest assured you've done a great job raising me, and I'm now ready for my role in becoming the father figure. Thank you."

Found this video 2 days after i left my dad for the last time dying of cancer ! Cryed a lot helped me get it out though needed that !💔 1 year later song still brings back tears cant help It !! MISS YOU SO MUCH DAD !

Yep, his pain was real. This was like a "farewell "song to his dad. They couldn't find a donor and he was dying slowly. Thankfully after this they found a match. Everyone in the wrong recording this was crying but you can see Jame's dad was still a father first. He was there  to console his boy 💔 also he is ex military do apparently he saw everyone crying he was like "what I am not dead yet " or something like that lol do glad to know he got his transplant and is doing ok to this day.

This tune help me out so much lost both of my parents at the age of 24 the song helps so much

You're awesome ty for this. I cry every time. Big hug!

Emotions are good, they show your humanity. When musician moves you, they have succeeded with their art. Some songs are just so beautiful they wet the eyes.

I think it was pretty brave what he did to make a song as a farewell to his father and on top of that make a music video... unfortunately that's how life is full of goodbyes, I'm someone who keeps everything inside, but here we are and I cried too much with the song, so I'll open up a little, in my life I've lost many people, my grandmother, a good childhood friend in a motorcycle accident, where the car was to blame... but the death that marked me the most and still hurts today, was the death of my girlfriend, it happened when I was 16 years old (it's been 20 years now) we were on a trip and I was driving on my motorcycle and a drunk driver crashed head-on into us, we were thrown out, I was barely hurt, broken ribs, shattered legs, but she was still alive when I woke up in the hospital they gave me the terrible news, my girlfriend had died, she had broken her neck when she hit a tree... she was everything to me, My life, the woman who gave meaning and color to my life, since then all my days are gray and I don't think I can fall in love with another woman like I did with her... well, it's a bit long, greetings from Spain and be strong

Sara, your eyes filled with tears are so beautful :)

Watching from Washington state, Seattle area.

Commenting from North Carolina in the USA.  My father passed away 7 years ago but still feels like yesterday.  So yeah, this song has special meaning to me for that reason specifically.  Loved your reaction and I'm quite sure your parents are very proud of you!!  ☺

Thank you Sara for a beautiful sincere reaction video.

Blessing you, from México.
