Would have loved to see Geordie and Sam geeking out together, Tecl'C, Worf and Breťac learning from each others warrior culture and tactics, Daniel and Data sharing their knowledge along with Data's abilities, and Jack O'Neil with Captain Picard appreciating one another's leadership style only to respectfully decide that they wouldn't be appropriate for each of them to adopt but develop admiration for each others accomplishments and skills
This may have made more sense if this was an experimental gate that was meant to span to another galaxy but had instead crossed dimensional barriers and was abandoned for that reason.
Aye, these gates are one way at a time. If Data activated it, no one could come through it from the other end, until the gate closed,at which point it can be dialed from an outside stargate location. In this case, obviously the SGC, or Stargate Command.
Hey captain we found the Stargates have a 9th Chevron...
"Guess they'll have to invent a new ship class to explore where that leads wonder what that'll be named..."
...and that's how a small object in the shape of an old British police call box was discovered, floating dead in the local galactic cluster, and how over the next millenium a certain doctor, with the last name of crusher, coulda woulda maybe might have shoulda started, the temporal cold wars.....
They really don’t want to even toy with the idea that Star Trek is a TV show in one timeline and real in another. You’d think finding out that you’re considered fiction would be more of a shocker
Would’ve played with the idea that Roddenberry got a case of the Gardner Fox, and was connected to the Star Trek universe somehow and what he saw as dreams were in fact him experiencing it.
That or toy with the idea that Roddenberry was either an amnesiac member of the Q or knew Q.
In Star Trek: Voyager, they actually encountered a race that invented something far better than a Stargate. You could just step on a platform and you would be transported to up to 40,000 light years away instantly.
Theoretically, you could build another such device there, and then go further. No need to send out slow ships to drop off gates.
Another race built a set of corridors for quicker travel in TNG, but that was not instant.
And of course, there was the Caretaker, which transported Voyager 70,000 light years in a few seconds.
Mistakes so far: #1, Miss pronouncing Teal'C name, #2, SG1 could not come thru the gate from that direction, the only way you can travel thru a gate is the side you "dial" from. So the gates are "oneway". Data did the dialing so he could have traveled thru the gate and emerged in the gate room at the SGC. If he wanted to get back to Piccard, he would have to dial Piccards gate address on the SGC's side. SGC is Stargate Command.
Good story but I think you lowballed the number of capital ships star fleet had at the time of the Enterprise D. In best of both worlds they were able to gather 40 ships in a short amount of time. Those were the nearest ships to Wolf 359. If they had more time they could have had a bigger fleet. Most ships were out on the fringes of the federation exploring.
