Today, it's back to normal life in our French home—chickens, a garden, harvest, and a few unexpected calculations.
I stopped by the store and checked the price of eggs. It turns out our neighbor, who recently got chickens, sells home-raised eggs cheaper than store-bought ones. We ordered 120 eggs from him at once to take to Switzerland for our dance troupe, but we couldn't get the whole order together in a week—instead of ten boxes, we only got seven.
And then I wondered: is it even possible to make money from home-raised eggs? Even selling ten boxes a week yields very little, and the chickens still need to be fed and cared for. Perhaps this model only works with a significantly higher poultry population.
And today we're already trying our second home-grown watermelon. It's small, but incredibly sweet and juicy! After this result, we want to plant many more watermelons and melons next year. As for zucchini and pumpkins, it seems like we'll have enough to last us a long time. 😄
Before leaving, I'm preparing food and water for our chickens—we have five days ahead of us.
