Snapping turtles have a reputation for being aggressive, dangerous turtles. And while they can be dangerous if you are bitten, new evidence has convinced me that snapping turtles are not the monsters that we thought that they were. It's time to experimentally test my hypothesis as to what makes the difference between a vicious monster, and a harmless lap turtle.

Clint this was one of the most fun days I've ever had noodling. You are so funny, smart and adventurous. What a great young man your son is as well. Thank you kindly for letting me take you and Garrett. Wonderful people like you are who change the world!

I love the fact that you are changing the lives of snapping turtles everywhere, and more important the worlds view on them.

Do not hold turtle like burger

Hold it like plate for burger

That's how I hold my cat so I don't turn into a blood donor.

"Clint's hold" is going to become a textbook taught technique. And I am so happy I was here to watch the whole process of it being born.

'Clint's Reptiles Method' is too wordy, I propose the 'Clint Lift'.

bro turned a snapper turtle into a lap turtle

I can't be the only person seeing that the motion of the turtle from an underneath hold is more reminiscent to acting like they would in water rather than on land.

"Clint's Lift" or "the Laidlaw Lift" sound pretty good to me!

Repeatedly in the past we have seen that the number 1 cause of aggression in animals is them feeling scared or uncomfortable/in pain, and this just shows that again with snapping turtles. I truly hope holding them from below becomes the new standard.

If I was getting picked up by the ribcage, I'd be pissed off, too.

@aafrophonee 3 weeks ago

Turns out, they don't like the entire weight of their internal organs being held up by their spine/ribs

I'm really happy to see this saga continuing! Looking forward to the next part and eventually reading that paper!

04:16 -- I was always in the "snapping turtle bad" echo chamber until this video came along and taught me to know better.

Admiral Thunder von Snugglepants is the BEST name for a Snapping Turtle ever! I salute you!

@anthonywestbrook2155 3 weeks ago

Twenty years from now people are gonna be like, "they thought you could just hold 'em by their ribs and they'd be okay with that?" This is one of those things that is obvious in hindsight. But importantly, without hindsight, nobody had a clue to even question it.

"snapping turtle noodler" is the scariest three word sequence i've heard in a long time.

Got to rescue a snapper off the road a couple months ago using this method! There was a really seat lady who stopped for it but had no idea what to do and was scared to touch it. When I got it off quickly without issues, she was like, "HOW DID YOU KNOW???"

Me: "Clint from youtube!"
