Welcome to another episode with Arne & Carlos — and this time we are diving into INTARSIA KNITTING! 🧶

Intarsia is one of our favorite techniques for creating bold, graphic colorwork designs, and in this episode we finally show you how we work with it. We use our Zebra Sweater as an example and demonstrate how to change colors, manage your yarn, control your tension, and create clean transitions between colors.

If you have ever wondered how to knit intarsia, how to prevent holes when changing colors, or how to keep your tension even, this tutorial is for you!

We also talk about the difference between intarsia and traditional stranded colorwork, why we sometimes combine intarsia with duplicate stitch, and why intarsia can be especially useful when knitting large or complicated colorwork motifs back and forth.

🧶 In this Intarsia knitting tutorial:

• How to change colors using Intarsia
• How to twist yarns when changing colors
• How to avoid holes between color sections
• How to control your tension in Intarsia
• Working Intarsia on straight lines
• Working Intarsia on diagonal lines
• Managing multiple yarn bobbins and yarn bundles
• Fixing loose stitches from the back
• Combining Intarsia with duplicate stitch
• How to weave in Intarsia ends
• Tips for knitting graphic colorwork designs
• Our Zebra Sweater and how we designed it

One of the things we love about Intarsia is that it gives you the freedom to “paint” with yarn. Large motifs and detailed pictures can be much easier to create with Intarsia than with stranded knitting, especially when working flat.

And yes — there will be a lot of yarn hanging from your project! 😄 But don't worry. With a little patience and some practice, Intarsia knitting isn't as difficult as it looks.

If you'd like to see us take this technique even further, let us know!

Happy knitting!
