Oh good I can fulfill my Roman Empire quota for the day

This has to be the most assassinations in one video.

Wake up babe we’ve got to learn about Roman emperors from usefulcharts

I find it fitting that the last emperor of the western roman empire was called Romulus (the namesake of Rome), and the last emperor of the eastern roman empire was Constantine (the namesake of Constantinople)

so many emperors named the great but cesar is so great his name means emperor in multiple languages

At some point you would think that some of these emperors would start feeling a little suspicious of the Praetorian Guard 😂

Knock knock "Who is it?"- "Pretorian Guard." - "Pretorian Guard whoouuuugghh".

Seems like 'Maximus Thrax' was pretty much a forgettable emperor but boy did he have a cool name. Would be a great name for a Decepticon leader or something like that

So to sum up the video... being Roman Emperor was undesirable and deadly.

You've got the Goths backwards. The Ostrogoths were the eastern Goths and the Visigoths were the western Goths not the other way around

We eating good today boys

(I watch these on my second monitor while working, so the compilation saves me a few minutes)

love the full reccognition of roman principate, dominate and byzantine eras

it's insane that all of this happened because some guy got stabbed a bunch of times by his friends in a senate house

One more video before bed

so the romans lasted 2,206 years all together, amazing!

ALEIXOS NO! DON'T DO IT YOU FOOL!

majorian was no puppet, he was betrayed by ricimer, who could not be emperor himself because he wasnt a roman

Such a well-designed tree. Some of your best work. Love the maps and the inclusion of other dynasties like Huns, Ostrogoths, as well as how well this feeds directly into your two European history charts

I feel like its important to mention that Majorian was more than just another yearly emperor, he served under Aetius and as emperor undid much of the corrupt past rulers and Germanic kingdoms work and ultimately resecured all territory in the west aside from North Africa (which the vandals held and he planned an invasion of before his death) and Britain which was abandoned decades prior. There was a reasonably good chance that the western empire could’ve recovered under Majorian on account of his military successes and resolving of internal corruption. He was ambushed by his former friend and trusted general with only his bodyguard and was killed then beheaded, the western half immediately crumbled and within 15 years was destroyed after what looked like a promising restoration.
