It would certainly be interesting to find these trains tested and in service for a few days on the 2 and 5 (especially since the latter has overcrowding along pretty much the entire route in the day and runs as a shuttle at night). They could have four 5-car sets hook up so there can be one train tested on the 2 and one tested on the 5. After that, they can see exactly how crowding would affect service, especially since the 7 can get packed fairly easily.

That is some great passenger equipment. I wonder if the R188 will make it's way onto the 7 line by National Train day.

The R188 and the R142A are, for all intensive purposes, basically identical. The only major difference is that the R188s are equipped with CBTC capability, and also feature updated LED interior lighting. To be nit-picky, the R142 is a different car manufactured by a different builder. R142 = Bombardier built / Alstom ONIX propulsion. R142A and R188 = Kawasaki built / Bombardier MITRAC propulsion.

Whenever new cars are ordered for the IRT (oh, sorry...I meant the "A" Division--silly me), they begin service on the "7" during off-peak hours (8 p.m. to 4 a.m.) so the MTA can break them in. I must say, when it comes to my all-time favorite train set (the New York City Subway), I'm a BMT guy myself (see, there I go again...I mean, the "B-2" Division), but these new R-188s are really nice cars! The next time I go back home (I live in Las Vegas now) will probably be around the time the new 2nd Avenue Line opens. I think I'll treat myself to a ride along the Lexington Avenue Line as well! These new trains are attractive and this brake testing was impressive........but the most annoying feature is that loud, out-of-tune-violin noise this generation of subway trains today make!  I'll always miss the "music" of the classic Redbirds with their piston compressors and unique brake release and air let-off sounds.

no specific day, but by the rate they're progressing, I hope it is some time before September this year.

Also, the train's not in a tunnel. In tunnels, it gets far worse.
