A film by Fabienne Engel about Wiebke Lühmann.
A journey to the North Cape. 3500 kilometers in 30 days.
On July 26, 2022 I started my 30-day journey from Hamburg to the Norwegian North Cape.
Fabi accompanied the start and the last days in Norway with his camera and drone. 15 years of friendship connect us and we are super proud to show you our first, joint film.

Also, there might be some points concerning the film making that we wanted to highlight, cause it might not have come out very clearly here on YouTube:
I was with Wiebke for 5 days: One day at the start when she took off from my apartment and for the last four days of her trip. With the GoPro, Wiebke vlogged her trip during the time I was not there. To break it up, we pulled some of my footage to the front. Thus, the narration is chronological, but some landscape & generic biking scenes are not always in line. This is why it seems like I was there the whole time. We have consciously made the balancing act as long as we stayed consistent with her emotional journey. And that’s what we made sure with her GoPro material. So not even Wiebke was on her own, but me too. I flew the drone, filmed and cut the movie on my own without further support.
On bikepacking.com (https://bikepacking.com/plog/on-her-own-film/) you find more background information about how we made the movie and we are also producing a making of movie that we want to publish very soon here on YouTube. Stay tuned!
So, ON HER OWN is not a day by day documentary. And we also didn’t want to prove something. Wether it is Wiebke being extraordinarily strong or fast or independent. The movie is about taking off, finding your own rhythm. Being on your own adventure. On your own bike. On your own thoughts at your own pace. It’s not about performance and breaking world records. Made by two friends who just went for their very first big project together.
For all of those we could inspire: We wish you the best time on your next (maybe first) own adventure ♥
