It's so hard losing friends to kids. 🙁 But I also think if friends with kids aren't willing to make an effort to keep in touch as well, then they aren't the friends we thought they were. I have three best friends from childhood that all have kids, and I feel like our relationship is as strong as ever. Sure, I often rearrange my schedule to meet with them because it is generally easier for me to do that without kids, but they also make an effort to meet me where I'm at, and that makes such a huge difference! Hopefully this best friend of yours will make an effort to stay in touch with you. 🙂

I didnt have 2 much bother wen my friends had kids but now at 66 i am losing most of my freinds to grandkids. Theyve become obssessed. I couldnt have children had a hysterectomy at 29 due to severe endometriosis.  My life was good but after a reaction to a new drug i have ended up with multiple severe health problems. I feel lonely now. I think its sad that freinds dont think about you much.  Have a couple good friends still but its definately changed things  hope you feel better soon

I am also child-free by choice and I lost a lot of friends but the most heart breaking was the friend I lost in 2024. She had her baby through IVF and during covid. I noticed as soon as my friends had kids, their brain changes? I don't know how to explain but it was almost like the person they were is completely gets erased. I'm glad you have at least 2 friends. I am in a new city and its a very 'conservative' city - almost everyone has 3 kids minimum & got married / had kids in their early 20s which is crazy to me. Its very hard to relate because a lot of them since people my age here have kids in their 20s or going through divorce. It's very interesting how 'culturally' we can be so different from province to province. I am originally from Toronto and its very common for women to wait til they are in their 30s to have children. Anyway I hope your friendship with your best friend can survive. At least you know it doesnt happen cus you are a bad friend or she is, its just a huge change and unfortunately, she will need to be friends with people who also have young children. There's a lot of things new moms go through that I don't think we will ever understand or thankfully have to go through.

I was in your shoes at your age so understand everything you are saying. Interesting I ended up being a step mum to two kids and having a baby of my own at 46 years of age. So I ended up having the single life experience and the motherhood experience. Motherhood is a huge responsibility and there is so much emotional pain as you feel your child’s pain all the time.

Ever since one of my dearest friends told me she’s been seriously discussing having kids with her boyfriend, I’ve felt the need to slowly distance myself from her because I can just tell our lives will look so different once she starts having kids. The friendship won’t last. We haven’t been as close as we once were as girls for a couple of years now, and we don’t talk much anymore tbh, which is another reason I think we won’t make it. It has been weird to sort of mourn this inevitable demise of a close friendship. All that say, I understand where you’re coming from. Hang in there ❤

I’m child free by choice. My husband and I just absolutely love it. We are 46 & 48 and never regretted for a second not having kids. I see the misery of mothers and I would detest their life .

Looking back to the beautiful moments and blessings I had, always remembering them, helps me finding my peace with aging and dying one day...just always enjoy the small things, do your best in life, start with it now and feel gratitude for the good things you have, maybe finding a purpose, a goal you can focus on, something which is important to you personally...then you can find your peace

I dont have kids myself....but i do notice that i dont typically see my old friends who have kids....so i get this

I'm 36 and none of my friends married or having kids. Which I am highly relieved. I only have a single friend form highschool who is divorced and has a baby. It was hard to meet her when she was married but it became impossible to meet after the baby. I understand but is still frustrating. We constantly have to cancel or move everything to the kid. I like kids as long as they aren't mine 😂 my sister has a baby and is finished. I had to baby sit for her for 2 full weeks and I felt like it was driving me up the wall, as much as I love my niece. I didn't wanted to see her again for a while, lol. I had enough. I am a cat mom and I wouldn't chance that for the world. I love cleaning the cat littler and feeding her while she gives me all the cuddles I need. No more need for anything. I am also happy single for 3 years after a very long terrible relationships. I'm not in a rush to any relationship I enjoy my single life too much cuz I have pets, friends and hobbies to fill my time. Kids will never be on my list. And even if there won't be any furends, the long list of my hobbies would still keep me distracted and busy enough so I don't worry

Children grow, they become teenagers especially the sons grow distant qiickly and the mother is trying to get back her life she had  or at least thinks she can go back  but sometimes its bot possible. The friends she lost are maybe too far away. They have another life..she realises she is lonely and lost.

If your life sucks by yourself please dont add another person to the equation
