Edit: I just woke up and looking through the comments now, and it really seems like- for the majority of people- the only reason they defend Abby is because they're not Paimon.
Like, for all the accusations thrown at me over the past two years, "You only hate Abby because you have Paimon PTSD!" it feels like, ironically, the only reason a majority of people defend Abby is because THEY have Paimon PTSD.
I honestly don't care about Paimon at all, and it's only about 5-10% of this video.
There were a few disagreements with my other points, though, and I love reading them. But it essentially boils down to "agree to disagree."

The problem is KURO reveal Abby as one of Thenodian too early and never talk about it ever again.
The Thenodian secret is the one of last thing making WUWA lore interested.

On the note of Paimon, Genshin has been putting more focus on her throughout the story and giving her more of a character arc. Natlan shaped her a LOT, she saw so much of the war that happened which made her feel useless so she’s desperate to not be useless to the Traveler and this is later discussed with Wanderer in the final Sumeru Archon Quest and before that at several points during Nod-Krai with her trying to do what she can in whatever limited manner. She’s noticeably matured quite a bit plus we have more reveals of her origins as someone from Celestia and how that sort of reveal has impacted her anxiety (the Traveler has to reassure her that they wouldn’t turn on her just cuz of her origins), especially when she’s targeted by Ronova. It also helps that for a while now she’s had a new English VA whose tone is a lot more softer and less grating. The story is emphasizing more and more just how close the Traveler and Paimon are, laying the groundwork for some sort of future conflict (in the final Sumeru Archon Quest, Paimon gives the Traveler her notebook of guide materials she’s been slowly working just in case if the Traveler somehow forgets her) and one of Traveler;s main goals in even fighting the Heavenly Principles is to defend Paimon, as it was Paimon who was with them on their journey and helped them get attached to Teyvat instead of immediately trying to leave with their sibling. Paimon plays an important role. Ignoring all of this doesn’t exactly help Abby’s case. I noticed in a co,Kent you said you stopped playing at the beginning of Natlan, so it’s understandable you don’t know this but if you’re going to bring up Paimon, then at the bare minimum be caught up with how Genshin is utilizing her

Idk if WuWa has done similar stuff like this with Abby and while I haven’t played WuWa in ages, I’d like for WuWa’s story to improve with Abby in a similar regard (based off of this video) cuz I believe that’s what fellow WuWa fans also deserve. Make it more clear who she is outside of food and sleep, have Abby bounce off of more characters, and just in general do more with Abby. If Genshin can do that (even if it took a while), then I’m sure WuWa can as well :)

You forgot Abby's ability to translate speech from non human characters.

Abby is like: Eat! Sleep! Repeat!
Tbh, I like Paimon way more than Abby, she can be annoying sometimes but has a stronger personality. She's the travel buddy you need, not just an addition.
Abby on the other hand feels like some unknown creature happened to join just for the sake of having another. I'd rather prefer to have Yapyap over this, she would make the journey more meaningful.

Feels like it's been an entire year, Abby was heavily mentioned.

Hot take. Abby's lore  isn't something that should be explored or expanded upon anytime soon. The game did a good job sprinkling bits and pieces of lore about what abby is and what its origin could be throughout multiple patches. They are at a safe spot now where they can give attention to other important characters like yangyang, who potentially be a travel companion for rover. Abby's role as a support is still pretty solid and has more than enough presence to be remembered. The game is  2 years 4 months old and 2.7 was almost a year ago. We have got enough content on abby through past patches and i feel like they are at a safe spot to halt on the abby lore and focus more on the world lore or overarching plot.

I've played FF14 and i've witnessed first hand how a suposed "ignored" plot point from 2+ years back can sudenly come back and become an cinema of a story, so Abby doesn't botter me at all. Stories on live service games are told in a completely different way and i know Abby is endgame stuff, so since 1.x i already knew his lore would take years to move forward. All he did so far is enough for me to be ok with his presence, until the big reveal turns it into cinema, like FF did.

It's kinda crazy tho, how gacha games are treated in a totally different way, even tho both are live service games telling their stories in the exact same manner. For example, all those "ignored" plot points FF14 had for years became topics of discussion and excitement knowing one day, years down the line we'd have our reward. We'd rarely see critiques about silly things because people had the patience of waiting for the payoff.  But in the gacha space? Hell nah, unnaceptable. Make it relevant NOW or we riot. Everything becomes a topic for a new critique.

About not using the same rule for Endfield or any other game. I admit i felt that as well and agree to disagree about it being "too early" cuz you gave the same change for wuwa to grow. Times are different, theres competition when back then there was only hoyo games with that quality. When WuWa came, as much as people hate on it cuz its easy to say 1.0 sucked nowadays, it was ALREADY a step above the other games in the market when it came to exploration, QoL, combat or even graphics.

WuWa raised the bar even further nowadays in every single aspect, and every new game that comes should be treated with that as the new standard because more and more quality games are being released and nobody has the time to "wait" for a game to sudenly create a miracle and becomes godlike like WuWa 2.0 did.

Now, this is completely unrelated to the Abby topic, but theres one thing on the internet that i think people need to understand: Nobody is looking for negativity, or even criticism of something they enjoy. You wake up, go to work, come back home and go to the internet to have a good time. If you make a post with criticism there will always be people going against it because its human nature. It's not about being a shill or a hater. They don't go looking for it. The internet algo shoves it down their throats.

You know the saying that goes something like " You can receive 1000 comments praising you, but one bad comment can ruin your day"? That goes for everything, even for a game that you love.

I'm with you that what Abby can do and what they're supposed to be is heavily underutilized and sometimes I can't tell if we're deliberately not told what is part of Abby's skillset and what isn't. But seeing how the overarching story of WuWa seems to be that connections and relationships are what defines Rover's new attempt on Solaris, Abby's partnership included, I don't think cutting them out is valid. They could have kept Rover as this force of nature, clearing out enemies on their own with the occassional regional character support but I really like when they portray Abby and Rover as partners, even though it doesn't happen as often as I wish. Here's to hoping that gets adressed later. Maybe we should all make it part of the feedback thingy.

Honestly, I think a new character needs to join Rover's journey. I really thought it would have been Yangyang but maybe not.

Regardless I would kill for SOMEONE else besides just Abby for Rover to bounce off of. Because Wuwa doesn't have as many 4 stars as Genshin did around the same time, the world just feels a little empty, factions and groups lack faces.

I’m hoping Yangyang comes with us on all our adventures from this point onwards especially with how she was handled in patch 3.5 like we need more adventuring companions

ngl I think i kinda like the story idea with abby revealed way later. Imagine the tension that it creates when the thernodian declares rover a thernodian, and have him go through a mid-life crisis with the grand architect playing on his emotions. It would also affect the authority of the black shores. I can also picture a scene in the aemeath story quest where rover might not know exactly who he his, but one thing he knows is that he is aemeath's father.

it's just weird how in 2.8 or 2.7 we learn abby name again as abraxas, yet in entire time we face aleph-1 abby never appeared.
they are conflicted on how to handle abby  without giving away too much...which ended up giving absolutely nothing.

Yeah, Abby sits in a limbo state for me, not entirely plot relevant since being sent to Rinascita to learn about him, and also completely absent at times because there's always something that blocks Abby despite being our constant companion.

There's two narrative questions they have not addressed for me regarding Abby: why we couldn't leave Abby somewhere, thus giving a reason to not have Abby for a period of time, and why despite constantly seeing Rover gaining abilities, Abby doesn't grow in powers alongside Rover. Both of these would alleviate some of the problems I have with Abby in the story.

For my part, I enjoy the companionship of Abby and Rover. If anything, I like how the relationship between the two makes the goofy haha a little bit endearing for me, but at the same time I like the points you did mention on Abby and its use case; I myself do wish for more on Abby's character exploration and more time with its powers and how it helps us. That being said, it's always that "I hope I get more", only to be disappointed there's not much or none at all....
Anyways, thanks for the vid, sensei~ I liked the story and character discussion, which really sparked my imagination about how a good story can be even better.
We all love wuwa, so let's all take that love to move from the past and learn from it towards a shared future :)

Abby need more meaningful screen time

In a regular rpg. This would work cuz Abby is clearly someone who holds secrets important to the stories "endgame"

I won't lie that I find tidbits like with his real name getting revealed.

Problem is that, it's a story stuck in gacha hole. Gacha rpg will release a new chapter every patch. RPGs running 80 hours to complete vs a gacha that you can follow for years.

It's arguably much worse than the long time running animes which releases byweekly.


Only real advantage of the format is that each character will have their story explored better though it's mostly in favor of the banner.
