Kapil Sibal, Jantar Mantar protest, SIR voter list, Gyanesh Kumar resignation — senior lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal holds a sharp press conference questioning the heavy restrictions imposed ahead of the October 10 demonstration in Delhi. Metro stations closed, trains cancelled, and young protesters detained before they could even reach the designated protest site.
In this detailed briefing, Sibal asks why a government that claims to uphold democratic rights is treating citizens who want a clean voter list as a threat. He points out that Jantar Mantar is a legally designated protest location, yet access has been blocked, and questions what the Election Commission and the Centre are trying to hide by shielding Gyanesh Kumar. He also highlights the scale of the security deployment and the preemptive orders issued days in advance, arguing that fear of public questioning is driving these measures.
Whether you see the Special Intensive Revision as a necessary clean-up or a threat to voting rights, the constitutional right to peacefully assemble and ask questions is at the centre of this moment. Watch the full press conference to hear Sibal’s direct response to the curbs and his view on why the demand for accountability is growing louder.
